On Friday, February 13th, the 2026 Sault Ste. Marie Boy’s High School Basketball City Championships tipped off at St Mary’s College, bringing together the top junior and senior teams in the city to compete for championship honours in front of an energetic crowd.
Junior championship action saw the St. Mary’s Knights claim the city title with a 58–41 victory over the Korah Colts. The Knights were led by Jackson Carroll, who finished with 18 points, while Lukas Maninos and Jakhoi Penney each added 14 points to pace the balanced St. Mary’s attack. For the Colts, Paxton Brodie led the way with 12 points, Alex Farrell contributed nine, and Nolan Coudert chipped in with eight in the loss. Despite falling short in the final, Brodie’s consistent play throughout the season earned him Junior Most Valuable Player honours. Junior All-Star selections included Christian Budd (White Pines), Nik Joseph (Superior Heights), Alex Farrell (Korah), and St. Mary’s standouts Jackson Carroll and Lukas Maninos.
The senior city championship delivered a thrilling finish, as the Superior Heights Steelhawks edged the White Pines Wolverines 62–58 in a tightly contested matchup. Superior Heights built a lead of as many as 15 points, but White Pines stormed back in the fourth quarter, knocking down four three-pointers on four straight possessions to make it a one-possession game late. The Steelhawks held on behind strong performances from Nicholas Frost with 19 points, Will Middaugh with 13, and Drayden Brock adding 12. White Pines was powered by a game-high 25 points from Ethan McCorkell, while Garrin Pine added 19 in the spirited comeback effort.
Senior All-Star honours went to Amare Boateng (St. Mary’s), Tristan Cote (Korah), Nicholas Frost and Dylan Wooton (Superior Heights), and Garrin Pine (White Pines). Despite falling just short of the championship, White Pines’ Anthony Hunt was recognized for his outstanding play and leadership, earning Senior Most Valuable Player honours.
With the city championships complete, attention now turns to postseason play, as Sault Ste. Marie prepares to host the 2026 NOSSA ‘A’ Championships on Wednesday, February 25th and Thursday, February 26th at White Pines Collegiate. The AA/AAA NOSSA Championships will follow on February 27th and 28th, hosted across St. Mary’s College and Korah Collegiate, as Northern Ontario’s top high school programs converge on the city.
