The U18AA Jr Greyhounds hit the road over the September 28th to 30th weekend, travelling to Sudbury for a three-game preseason exhibition series as the team continued preparing for the upcoming season.
The weekend provided the Greyhounds with an important opportunity to come together as a group and gain valuable game experience, with three games played against teams from across Ontario.
The Jr. Hounds opened the weekend against the Kitchener Lady Rangers, falling 4-1 in their first game of the series.
Game two saw the Greyhounds take on the Barrie Sharks, with Barrie earning a 4-1 victory.
The final game of the weekend was a much closer affair, as the Greyhounds battled the host Sudbury Lady Wolves before dropping a 2-1 decision.
Despite the results, the weekend was an important step forward for a young Greyhounds roster coming together for the first time as a complete team.
The Greyhounds received goals from Averie Atkinson, Harlee Cote and Meadow Woods over the course of the three-game series. Kaia Boissoneau also picked up an assist on Cote’s goal.
Following the weekend, Jr. Hounds head coach Jenna Buck told SaultSports that the exhibition series provided the team with plenty of positives to build upon.
“Overall weekend was good. That was the first time as an entire team we were together so was nice to see the girls continue to jive throughout the weekend. We’ve got a whole new group of young but, hard working players and you could see that even throughout the past 3 games, the girls continued to find their chemistry and their level of compete as they developed more confidence throughout each of the games this weekend.”
For the Jr. Hounds, the focus now shifts to continuing that development as they prepare for their next major preseason test.
The Greyhounds will head to the 2026 Stoney Creek Showcase, taking place over the September 10th to 13th weekend. The showcase will feature teams from across Ontario as well as the United States, providing the young Greyhounds with another opportunity to test themselves against quality competition.
With a new group of players continuing to develop their chemistry and confidence, the Stoney Creek Showcase will be another key step in the Jr. Hounds’ preparations for the 2026-27 season.
