Coming off a 4–3 shootout loss to the London Knights on Friday, February 13th, the fourth-place Soo Greyhounds (32-16-1-4) continued their road swing Saturday night with a Western Conference matchup against the eighth-place Owen Sound Attack (20-28-2-3) at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre. With the point earned in London the night before, Sault Ste. Marie officially clinched a playoff berth heading into the contest.
Owen Sound came out strong in the opening period, striking first at 8:28 when Jake Crawford scored his 13th of the season, assisted by Elliot Arnett. The Attack doubled their lead at 12:47 as Nicholas Sykora netted his 19th, with Julian Brown picking up the assist, giving the home side a 2–0 advantage after one.
The Greyhounds responded in the second period. At 5:41, Brady Smith cut the deficit in half with his 10th of the season, set up by Colin Fitzgerald. Sault Ste. Marie tied the game at 9:26 when Marco Mignosa buried his 23rd of the campaign unassisted. The Attack answered back late in the frame, as Jared Langdon restored the lead at 15:29 with his third of the season, assisted by Nicholas Sykora and Harry Nansi. Just 43 seconds later, Braedyn Rogers made it 4–2 Owen Sound, scoring his sixth with help from Noah Nelson.
The third period belonged to the Greyhounds. Jeremy Martin pulled Sault Ste. Marie within one at 2:01, scoring his 25th of the season unassisted. On the power play at 7:59, John Banks tied the game at 3–3 with his third of the year, assisted by Harry Nansi and Tristan Delisle. The comeback continued at 10:00 when Mignosa scored his second of the night and 24th of the season, again unassisted, to make it 5–4. With time winding down, Carson Andrew forced overtime at 16:10, scoring his fifth of the season off passes from Noah Laus and Spencer Evans to knot the game at 5–5.
Overtime solved nothing, sending the contest to a shootout. Marco Mignosa was the lone shooter to find the back of the net, lifting the Greyhounds to a 6–5 shootout victory.
In goal, Carter George earned the win for Sault Ste. Marie, stopping 28 of 33 shots, while Matthew Koprowski turned aside 33 of 38 in the loss for Owen Sound.
