After falling short in the 2024 Sault Ste. Marie High School Football League semi-final against the eventual city champions, the Korah Colts, the White Pines Wolverines are back with renewed focus and unfinished business. The team hits the field for the start of their 2025 training camp on August 20, determined to build on last year’s playoff run and take the next step toward championship contention. With a strong core of returning seniors and a hungry group of underclassmen, expectations are high as preparations begin for what promises to be a hard-fought season.

As the upcoming football season approaches, the excitement is building around a strong group of returning senior players set to make their mark on both sides of the ball. With experience, athleticism, and a full offseason of preparation under their belts, these players are expected to be key contributors and leaders in 2025.

At the helm of the offense is none other than Garrin Pine, “The Maverick” himself. Returning as the starting quarterback, Pine brings a dual-threat presence under center, known for his athleticism and ability to create explosive plays. His vision, quick feet, and leadership will once again drive the offensive tempo as he looks to elevate the unit to new heights.

On both offense and defense, few are as impactful as Nashoba Moore. Last year’s Rocky DiPietro Award winner, Moore is back at wide receiver and defensive back, where his speed, instincts, and playmaking ability have earned him recognition as one of the most dynamic two-way players in the league.

Joining Moore in the secondary and at wide receiver is Ethan McCorkell, a proven performer with a versatile skill set. Fresh off a successful season with the Sault Steelers, McCorkell showed his range by drilling multiple 30+ yard field goals in Power5 Play. His return gives the team a reliable weapon in the kicking game as well as on both sides of the ball.

In the trenches, “Big” Wayne Jones-Reid and Keegan Dane are back to anchor the offensive and defensive lines. Known for their physicality and toughness, both players bring leadership and grit to the front lines, setting the tone at the line of scrimmage.

The Grade 12 core of JD Boyer, Lawrence Ward, DJ Pine, and Anthony Hunt have been putting in serious work this offseason in the weight room. Their dedication and strength development are expected to translate into increased physical presence on the field, providing valuable depth and energy across multiple positions.

With this mix of veteran talent and offseason commitment, the team is poised for a strong campaign. Fans should keep their eyes on these returning seniors as they look to lead the charge toward a winning season.
