As preparations continue for the 2026 junior football season, the White Pines Wolverines are looking to strengthen their coaching staff by recruiting passionate individuals who want to help develop the next generation of football players.
Entering his fifth season with the White Pines junior football program, head coach Will Basawa is focused on building a coaching staff that shares a common vision both on and off the field.
“This will be my fifth year at White Pines,” said Basawa. “I’m looking for coaches who are outstanding teachers, communicate clearly, and prepare with discipline and attention to detail. I want people who are accountable, collaborative, and committed to putting the team’s success ahead of individual recognition. Together, those qualities create a culture of excellence and sustained success.”
The Wolverines are currently seeking coaches for four key positions before the start of the 2026 fall campaign:
- Offensive Line Coach
- Defensive Line Coach
- Linebackers Coach
- Quarterbacks Coach
Each position coach will play an important role in the program by teaching football fundamentals, preparing athletes to execute consistently, and working closely with the rest of the coaching staff to ensure a unified approach throughout the team.
While previous coaching experience is certainly an asset, Basawa believes there are other qualities that are just as important.
“Experience is valuable, but I place just as much importance on character, a willingness to learn, and continuous improvement,” he explained. “You can never approach coaching believing you have all the answers yourself.”
Developing young athletes goes well beyond wins and losses, and Basawa emphasizes that every member of the coaching staff must embrace the same philosophy when it comes to player development and team culture.
“We establish clear standards and expectations from the beginning, ensuring every coach understands that player development, discipline, and culture are shared responsibilities,” he said. “We communicate regularly, evaluate ourselves honestly, and lead by example so our actions consistently reflect our values.”
The White Pines Wolverines have long been committed to helping student-athletes grow both as football players and as young leaders within the community. That commitment begins with assembling a coaching staff that values teaching, mentorship, and accountability.
Basawa hopes members of the local football community will consider giving back to the game by joining the Wolverines program.
“We’re looking for coaches who are passionate about teaching, committed to developing young people, and willing to be part of something bigger than themselves,” he said. “Sault football’s quality and success is fueled directly by those who are willing to give back to a game that gave so much to them.”
Anyone interested in becoming part of the White Pines Wolverines coaching staff for the 2026 season is encouraged to reach out to the program. Whether you’re an experienced coach or someone eager to learn and mentor young athletes, this is an opportunity to make a lasting impact on the future of football in the Sault.
