Soo 18U Black Sox Finish Weekend in Michigan with a 4 – 1 Record

Over the Friday, June 13th to Sunday, June 15th weekend, the Soo 18U Black Sox headed south of the border to take part in the 2025 Gladwin Tournament in Gladwin, Michigan.

In game one of the weekend, Kolton Tremblay drove in four runs on three hits to lead the Black Sox past Marquette Post 44 White Diamonds 8-3 on Friday. In the sixth inning, Tremblay hit a grand slam to left field.

The White Diamonds opened the scoring in the first after Gleason grounded out, scoring one run.

A fielder’s choice by Tye Turco gave the Soo the lead, 2-1, in the top of the third.

Lucas Carriere earned the win for the Black Sox. The starting pitcher surrendered six hits and two runs (zero earned) over six innings, striking out five and walking one. Harvala took the loss for Marquette. The hurler went two innings, allowing two runs on one hit, striking out one and walking five. Lucas DiBerardino appeared in relief for the Soo.

Tremblay and Carriere were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected three hits for the Black Sox. DiBerardino paced the Soo with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying nine walks for the game.

Lajoie, the number eight hitter for the White Diamonds, led the way with two runs batted in. Ryan and Gaston each collected two hits for Marquette. The White Diamonds turned one double play in the game.

In game two of the weekend in Gladwin, the Black Sox won big over Marquette Post 44 Reds 8-0 on Saturday.

The Soo got on the board in the first inning after an error scored one run.

The Black Sox added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning when Lucas DiBerardino drew a walk, scoring one run, and Kolton Tremblay singled, scoring two runs.

The Soo added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on four hits. Tremblay homered to left field, scoring two runs, and Chase Cerasuolo singled, scoring one run.

The Black Sox scored one run in the bottom of the sixth on a solo home run to right field by DiBerardino.

Ryan Oliver started on the bump for the Soo. The starter allowed two hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out eight and walking none. Brown led things off on the bump for the Reds. The starting pitcher gave up six hits and seven runs (five earned) over three and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking six. Logan Rohe threw one inning of no-run ball for the Soo in relief. The hurler surrendered zero hits, striking out one and walking none.

Tremblay and DiBerardino were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for the Black Sox. Tremblay led the Soo with three runs batted in. The outfielder went 2-for-2 on the day. Ty Cond paced the Black Sox with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying six walks for the game. The Soo were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. DiBerardino had the most chances in the field with nine.

Cromell and Gellar each collected one hit for Marquette.

On Saturday for game three, the Soo easily dispatched Gladwin Post 171 Lightning on Saturday, 9-1.

The Lightning got on the board in the first inning after Oard drew a walk, scoring one run.

The Black Sox captured the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the first after Thomas Keough hit a sacrifice fly, and Lucas Carriere stole home, each scoring one run.

The Soo added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning when Lucas DiBerardino doubled, scoring two runs, Carriere singled, scoring one run, and Tye Turco drew a walk, scoring one run.

A single by DiBerardino extended the Black Sox lead to 7-1 in the bottom of the third inning.

Turco started on the bump for the Soo. The pitcher surrendered one hit and one run over five innings, striking out three and walking three. Hair opened the game for Gladwin. The starting pitcher surrendered four hits and six runs (four earned) over two innings, striking out three and walking two.

DiBerardino and Carriere each collected two hits for the Black Sox. DiBerardino led the Soo with three runs batted in. The second baseman went 2-for-3 on the day. Owen James, Turco, and Carriere each stole multiple bases for the Black Sox 18U. The Soo ran wild on the base paths, piling up 10 stolen bases for the game. The Black Sox turned one double play in the game.

Bingham went 1-for-1 at the plate to lead the Lightning in hits.

In the final game of the weekend, the Soo defeated Gaylord Varsity Blue Devils 13-5 on Sunday thanks in part to eight runs in the second inning. Ryan Oliver drew a walk, scoring one run, Kolton Tremblay singled, scoring two runs, Chase Cerasuolo singled, scoring two runs, Owen James singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, and Ty Cond drew a walk, scoring one run.

Gaylord got on the board in the first inning after an error scored two runs.

A fielder’s choice by Hilt extended the Blue Devils lead to 3-0 in the top of the second inning.

The Black Sox added one run in the third after Tremblay singled down the left field line.

Thomas Keough earned the win for the Soo. The starter surrendered two hits and three runs (one earned) over three innings, striking out one and walking two. Greenier took the loss for Gaylord. The starting pitcher went two and one-third innings, giving up eight runs (zero earned) on four hits, striking out one and walking three. Cond appeared in relief for the Soo.

The Black Sox amassed 10 hits in the game. Tremblay and Cerasuolo each collected two hits for the Soo. Tremblay led the Black Sox with three runs batted in. Tremblay went 2-for-3 on the day. James stole two bases. The Soo ran wild on the base paths, amassing six stolen bases for the game.

Hilt led the Blue Devils with two runs batted in. Hilt went 1-for-2 on the day. Richard, the Blue Devils’ number eight hitter, led the team with two hits in two at-bats.

Soo Black Sox 18U couldn’t keep up with Marquette Post 44 White Diamonds and fell 10-1 on Sunday at 1201 N Bowery Ave.

Marquette Post 44 White Diamonds got on the board in the top of the third inning after Swenor doubled down the right field line, Gleason walked, and Gaston singled down the right field line, each scoring one run.

Marquette Post 44 White Diamonds scored five runs on five hits in the top of the sixth inning. Swenor tripled, scoring one run, Ayotte doubled, scoring two runs, Gaston singled, scoring one run, and Lajoie singled, scoring one run.

Harvala earned the win for Marquette Post 44 White Diamonds. The starter surrendered three hits and one run over five and one-third innings, striking out four and walking five. Kolton Tremblay took the loss for Soo Black Sox 18U. The starter went four innings, giving up four runs on six hits, striking out six and walking five.

Tremblay, Tye Turco, and Thomas Keough each collected one hit for Soo Black Sox 18U. Turco led Soo Black Sox 18U with one run batted in. The infielder went 1-for-2 on the day. Soo Black Sox 18U turned one double play in the game.

Marquette Post 44 White Diamonds accumulated 12 hits in the game. Swenor and Gaston each collected three hits for Marquette Post 44 White Diamonds. Ayotte, Swenor, and Lajoie each drove in two runs for Marquette Post 44 White Diamonds. Marquette Post 44 White Diamonds had a strong eye at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game. Harvala and Gleason led the team with two free passes each.

In game five of the week and fifth in three days, the Black Sox couldn’t keep up with Marquette Post 44 White Diamonds and fell 10-1 on Sunday, June 15th.

The 18U Black Sox will be back in the E.U.P of Michigan over the June 20th to 21st weekend in Norway, Michigan for three games.
