On Friday, October 20th, the second place St Mary’s Knights took to the turf at Superior Heights against the third place Superior Heights Steelhawks in junior Sault Ste Marie High School football action looking to earn their chance to head to the 2023 Sault Ste Marie city championships.
At 10:32 of the second quarter, Knight quarterback Alex Hayes runs for a one yard touchdown to give St Mary’s at 6 – 0 lead. Micah Cugglietta finds the uprights for the Knights with a convert to give St Mary’s a 7 – 0 lead. Ben Trevisanut pulls the Steelhawks within one with a three yard carry, Dylan Wootton gives Superior Heights a 8 – 7 on a two point conversion at 7:09 of the second quarter. Hunter Jackson evades three tackles at 2:41 of the second to bring the Knights lead to 13 – 8 with a sixty carry into the Steelhawk endzone. Cugglietta adds to the lead with his second straight successful convert for the Knights. With 6.7 seconds remaining in half, Jackson seconds St Mary’s into halftime up 21 – 8 after Amare Valente-Boateng kicks the convert for the Knights.
36 seconds into the third quarter the Knights score their fourth major of the contest with a seventy yard touchdown carry to increase their lead to 28 – 8 with Amare Valente-Boateng adding the extra point with the convert. With a 43 yard touchdown carry and his second third straight touchdown at 8:39 of the third to increase St Mary’s lead to 35 – 8 with Amare Valente-Boateng kicking the convert for the Knights. With the Knights six touchdown of the game at 4:15, Amare Valente-Boateng rushes for a 27 yard carry to give St Mary’s lead to 42 – 8 after Amare Valente-Boateng finds the uprights for the convert. At 9:58 of the fourth, Jahiem Perrault-Dedier rushes the ball ten yards for St Mary’s to increase the lead to 49 – 8 after Amare Valente-Boateng finds the uprights for the Knights’ convert. With time ticking down, Trevisanut evades four Knights tackles at 2:45 of the fourth to score Superior Heights second major of the contest. Blaine Polson runs a two point Superior Heights conversion.

The second place Knights take their 49 – 8 win into the Sault Ste Marie High School junior football city championship to meet the first place Korah Colts on Thursday, October 26th with a 7:30 p.m kickoff at Superior Heights field. Saultsports TV will be live on Saultsports TV.
