Two figure skaters, Elena Nelson and Yvonne Barnes, from the Lake Superior Figure Skating Club (LSFSC) competed in Barrie at the Skate Ontario Octoberfest figure skating competition October 12-15, 2023.
Nelson competed in two events, Pre–Juvenile U13 where she earned a personal best score, and Star 7short program where she placed 7th. Nelson’s goal is to qualify for Provincials in March 2024.
Barnes competed Novice ladies, a combined event consisting of a long and short program, and placed 10th.Octoberfest is one of two Skate Ontario Sectional Series qualifying events for Barnes, with a goal of qualifying for Pre-Novice/Novice Sectional Championships in December 2023. The top 16 skaters from the Skate Ontario Pre Novice/Novice Sectional Championship competition will represent team Ontario at Skate Canada Pre Novice/Novice Challenge in February 2024.
“The skaters have been working very hard, personal best scores were achieved and new goals have been set. It’s a great start to the season”, said LSFSC Director of Skating, Kerry Bain.
