High school football returns to Superior Heights Field on Saturday, September 6th at 7:00 p.m., as the White Pines Wolverines open their 2025 junior season against the reigning city champions, the Korah Colts. The matchup will be an early test for a Wolverines squad looking to take a big step forward this fall.
With enrollment numbers on the rise thanks to the recent construction of the ADSB Technology Center at White Pines, the program is expecting roster sizes in the low-to-mid twenties this season. As the new hub for the trades in Sault Ste. Marie, White Pines is optimistic about continued growth in both academics and athletics in the years ahead.
On the field, the Wolverines bring a mix of grit, athleticism, and emerging talent. OL/DL Lain Sayers-Manitowabi is expected to be one of the most physical linemen in the junior loop, setting the tone in the trenches. Quarterback Shamus Cochrane enters the season ready to showcase his athleticism and leadership as he takes the next step in his development. In the backfield, RB Lucas Evans has impressed with his offseason dedication in the weight room, while OL/DL Brody Marchand, fresh off a summer with the JV Cats, will anchor both sides of the line. On the perimeter, WR/DB Gaige Pine will use his height and athleticism to provide a presence in the passing game on both offense and defense.
The Wolverines know they’ll have their hands full in the opener against powerhouse Korah, but with an energized roster and a core of players eager to make their mark, White Pines is ready to prove they can compete with the league’s best in 2025.
“This staff and school are committed to offering a high-quality sport experience at White Pines. Our players will have the luxury of not needing to worry about being the fourth string player on a sixty person team. Our players will be provided with tons of opportunities to get out and play the game they love,” said Wolverine coach Will Basawa.
