Wolverines Improve to 2-2 with a Junior Win Over Knights in High School Action

On Thursday, September 29th, the 2 – 1 St Mary’s Knights took to the field to face the 1 – 2 White Pines Wolverines in Sault Ste Marie High School football junior action under the lights at Superior Heights.

2:02 into the opening quarter, Nashoba Moore runs 28 yards for a White Pines touchdown after a 28 yard pass from quarterback Garrin Pine to give the Wolverines a 6 – 0 lead. At 3:22 of the first, Cole Rivet rushes for a seven yard touchdown carry to even the game 6 – 6 for the Knights. Ethan McCorkell gives the Wolverines a 7 – 6 lead with kicking the ball through the Knights endzone at 7:14. Running 51 yards for a White Pines touchdown, McCorkell gives the Wolverines a 14 – 6 lead after McCorkell finds the uprights at 9:08 of the fourth quarter. With time ticking on the scoreboard and the Wolverines leading 14 – 6 with 15.6 seconds remaining the Thursday evening matchup, St Mary’s quarterback Alex Hayes pulls the Knights with two to bring the game to 14 – 12 with a five yard carry. With an unsuccessful two point convert, the Wolverines improve to 2 – 2 on the season while Knights fall to 2 – 2 in week four of the 2022 season.

Wolverines Steve Day-Nolan told Saultsports that “it feels pretty good, always learning the about game, improving every week as players individually and as a team, very good coaching, staff and students always believe in us. And very proud of my team and to be a Wolverine.”

The Knights next opponents will be the Korah Colts on Friday, October 6th in a 4:45 p.m start while the Wolverines face the Superior Heights Steelhawks on Thursday, October 5th in a 5:45 p.m kickoff at Superior Heights.
