The 2026 portion of the Sault Ste. Marie Girls High School Hockey League season opened on Monday, January 5th, as the St. Mary’s Knights faced off against the Korah Colts in an afternoon matinee at the Rankin Arena.
Korah set the pace early, striking four times in the first period to take firm control of the game. Journey Tegosh opened the scoring before Taylor Metcalfe added two goals of her own, with Harlee Cote closing out the opening frame to give the Colts a 4–0 lead. The Colts continued their offensive push in the second period, as Cote netted her second of the game and Nikki Steinburg added an unassisted marker to extend the lead to 6–0.
St. Mary’s found the scoresheet in the third period when Ashlyn Kobzick scored her eighth goal of the season, assisted by Erika Bernardo and Dana Fitzsimmons. Korah quickly responded, however, with three more goals from Hailey Greco, Aubrey Colletti on the powerplay, and Tegosh’s second of the game to cap a 9–1 victory.
Britton Note earned the win in goal for the Colts, while Alex Lepore handled the crease duties for the Knights.
The Knights return to action on Wednesday, January 7th, when they take on the Superior Heights Steelhawks at the Rankin Arena with a 2:30 p.m puck drop. Korah and St. Mary’s will meet again on Wednesday, January 14th, also at the Rankin Arena, with another 2:30 p.m start.
