On Friday, September 27th in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, the (0-3) White Pines Wolverines hit the turf at Superior Heights to take on the (1-2) Superior Heights Steelhawks in Sault Ste Marie Senior High School Football action.
At 7:06 of the opening quarter, Steelhawk Tye Rushon rushes two yards for a Superior Heights touchdown. Daxyn Pringle find the uprights for the extra point to give the Steelhawks a 7 – 0 lead. Wolverine quarterback Garrin Pines finds Nashoba Moore with a 16 yard pass for Moore to run for a 16 yard touchdown carry to bring White Pines within one at 6:31 of the first quarter. Following a White Pines penalty and kicking from their own 35 yard, Max Shillingford returned the kick for a 98 yard touchdown carry to give the Steelhawks a 14 – 6 lead after Pringle added the extra point at 6:20 of the first. With 8.9 remaining in the opening quarter, Pringle finds the uprights with a Steelhawk 35 yard field goal to bring Superior Heights lead to 17 – 6. 3:52 into the second quarter, Wolverine quarterback goes to the air to find Tristen Holzworth in the Steelhawks endzone on a 25 yard pass to close the gap to 17 – 14 with Garrin Pine carrying the ball into the endzone for a two point conversion.
Superior Heights quarterback Daikaden Gauthier crashes through the Wolverines defensive line at 2:28 of the quarter to carry the ball 13 yards into the Wolverines endzone for a Steelhawk major to increase the Steelhawks lead to 24 – 14 after a Pringle extra point. Pringle gives Superior Heights a 27 – 14 lead with a successful Steelhawk 39 yard field goal with 93 seconds left in the half. With 23.4 seconds remaining in the half, Garrin PIne goes to the air for the Wolverines touchdown finding Moore in the endzone on a 18 yard pass to bring the score to 27 – 20. Gauthier runs along the sidelines for a 92 yard touchdown to evade Wolverines defense to bring the Steelhawk lead to 34 – 20 lead after Pringle adding the extra point at 10:24 of the fourth. Ben Trevisanut carries the ball at 1:56 for the Steelhawks to give Superior Heights a 41 – 20 lead with Pringle kicking the extra point. With 69 seconds remaining in the Friday matchup, Dylan Wooton intercepts a Garrin Pine pass to return the ball for Superior Heights with a 54 yard touchdown carry to give the Steelhawks a 47 – 20 lead. After an unsuccessful snap, Steelhawk Chase Cerasuolo picks up a loose ball to run into the Wolverines a 49 – 20 win with a two point conversion.
In senior action, Superior Heights will now meet the St Mary’s Knights on Thursday, October 3rd while White Pines takes on the Korah Colts on Friday, October 4th. Game times will be at 7:30 p.m for senior action.
