Steelhawks Edge Wolverines in Thrilling Senior Football Clash

Coming off an opening-week 28-18 win over the St. Mary’s Knights, the Superior Heights Steelhawks kept their momentum rolling with a hard-fought victory against the White Pines Wolverines on Thursday, September 11th, at Superior Heights. The back-and-forth battle had fans on edge until the final minutes, with the Steelhawks ultimately pulling away late to secure their second straight win of the 2025 Sault Ste. Marie High School Senior Football season.

The Steelhawks struck first when quarterback Dylan Wooton connected with Max Shillingford for a 7-yard touchdown at 7:37 of the opening quarter, adding the convert himself for a 7-0 lead. White Pines battled back, tying the game late in the first half as DJ Pine powered in a 1-yard carry with Ethan McCorkell hitting the extra point. The Wolverines seized momentum in the third quarter, with quarterback Garrin Pine rushing for a 3-yard touchdown and McCorkell once again making good on the convert for a 14-7 lead. But the Steelhawks answered quickly as Wooton punched in a 3-yard run to trim the deficit.

The final frame delivered fireworks. Pine fired a 22-yard touchdown pass to Nashoba Moore just 13 seconds into the quarter, extending the Wolverines’ lead to 21-13. Refusing to back down, Wooton showcased his dual-threat ability, scrambling through multiple tackles for a touchdown before finding Shillingford on the two-point convert to tie the game at 21-21. With the clock winding down, Ty Cond muscled through the Wolverines’ defense for a 3-yard touchdown at 5:33, and Wooton added the convert to seal a thrilling 28-21 Steelhawks win.
