Soo 18U Black Sox Finish 4 – 2 in Gaylord, Michigan at 2025 MVB State Tournament

Over the July 24th to 26th weekend, the Soo 18U Black Sox headed south of the border to take part in the 2025 MVB State Tournament in Gaylord, Michigan.

Game one of the weekend on Thursday, July 24th, the Black Sox 18U were victorious against EUP Wood Ducks 7-2. EUP got on the board in the first inning after Medrick grounded out, scoring one run. The Soo flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring five runs on two hits to take the lead, 5-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Kolton Tremblay that drove in two.

The Black Sox added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Wood Ducks committed an error, and Tye Turco grounded out, each scoring one run.

Tremblay earned the win for the Soo. The starter allowed zero hits and one run (zero earned) over two and two-thirds innings, striking out six and walking two. Hibbard took the loss for the EUP. The pitcher went one inning, giving up three runs on one hit, striking out none and walking four. Turco threw two and one-third innings of zero-run ball for the Black Sox in relief. The pitcher gave up two hits, striking out none and walking none.

Tremblay provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Black Sox with two runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 3-for-4 on the day. Hunter Thorkilson stole two bases. The Soo worked the count all day, tallying eight walks. The Black Sox ran wild on the base paths, tallying seven stolen bases for the game. The Soo turned one double play in the game.

Lynn, Kavanaugh, Wilson, and Leblanc each collected one hit for the Wood Ducks. Jones stole two bases.

In the Soo’s game two on Thursday, the Post 44 Blues defeated the Black Sox with a steady offensive production. Post 44 kept adding on runs in a 7-0 victory over the Soo on Thursday.

The Blues got on the board in the second inning after Jack Siik singled, scoring two runs.

Post 44 scored one run in the top of the third on a solo home run to center field by Evan DellAngelo.

Tristan Slater earned the win for the Blues. The pitcher surrendered zero hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out six and walking three. Tye Turco took the loss for the Soo. The pitcher went five innings, giving up five runs on seven hits, striking out four and walking one.

Logan Rohe went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead the Black Sox in hits.

Siik led Post 44 with two runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The outfielder went 2-for-3 on the day. Siik and Blake Walther each collected two hits for Post 44. Nick Pantti stole two bases. The Blues ran wild on the base paths, tallying seven stolen bases for the game. Post 44 turned one double play in the game.

Game three of the weekend on Friday, the Black Sox claim victory over the Post 150 Blue Jays. The Soo ousted the Blue Jays 5-1. A double by Tristan Huzair put Post 150 on the board in the top of the first.

Kolton Tremblay hit a sacrifice fly, which helped the Soo tie the game at one in the bottom of the first. An error gave the Black Sox the lead, 3-1, in the bottom of the fourth.

Ryan Oliver earned the win for the Soo. The hurler gave up six hits and one run over seven innings, striking out one and walking none. Huzair took the loss for Post 150. The pitcher went six innings, giving up five runs (two earned) on six hits, striking out six and walking three.

Number seven hitter, Chase Cerasuolo, showed the depth of the Soo’s lineup, by leading them with two hits in two at bats. Tremblay, Lucas DiBerardino, and Daniel Stocco each drove in one run for the Black Sox.

Huzair led the Blue Jays with one run batted in. The pitcher went 2-for-3 on the day. Henry Brooks and Huzair each collected two hits for Post 150.

On Saturday, July 26th in game four weekend and first of the day, the Black Sox were victorious over the EUP Wood Ducks. The Black Sox were victorious against the Wood Ducks 9-4 on Saturday.

The Soo opened the scoring in the first after Kolton Tremblay doubled, scoring one run. The Wood Ducks took the lead, 2-1, in the top of the second thanks to singles by Morrison, and Vert.

The Black Sox flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring six runs on four hits to take the lead, 7-2. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Lucas DiBerardino that drove in two.

Tremblay earned the win for the Black Sox. The starting pitcher allowed four hits and three runs (two earned) over four innings, striking out eight and walking six. Morrison took the loss for the EUP. The starting pitcher went five innings, allowing nine runs (one earned) on six hits, striking out four and walking three. Ty Cond appeared in relief for the Soo.

Tremblay provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Soo with two runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 2-for-2 on the day. Tremblay and Lucas Carriere were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for the Black Sox. Tremblay stole two bases.

Chambers provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Wood Ducks with two runs batted in. Jones and Morrison each collected two hits for the EUP. The Wood Ducks had a strong eye at the plate, tallying six walks for the game.

In their second game of the day and fifth of the weekend, Kolton Tremblay puts on strong contact performance as the Black Sox take the win over Post 44 Blues for their second meeting in three days. Kolton Tremblay collected three hits in four at bats, as the Black Sox defeated Post 44 7-2 on Saturday. Tremblay hit a solo home run to left field in the fifth inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the seventh inning.

The Soo got on the board in the top of the first inning after Tye Turco doubled, scoring one run, Tremblay singled, scoring one run, Ryan Oliver singled, scoring one run, and Logan Rohe hit a sacrifice fly, scoring two runs.

The Black Sox scored one run in the top of the fifth on a solo home run to left field by Tremblay. Hunter Thorkilson earned the win for the Soo. The pitcher allowed two hits and zero runs over five and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking five. Isaac Ruspakka took the loss for the Blues. The hurler went six and one-third innings, giving up two runs on four hits, striking out four and walking two. Lucas DiBerardino and Lucas Carriere each appeared in relief for the Black Sox.

Turco collected two hits for the Soo in four at bats. The Black Sox turned one double play in the game. The Soo didn’t commit a single error in the field. Oliver had the most chances in the field with seven.

Owen Cardinal, Nick Pantti, Blake Walther, Gibson Jezewski, Wes Robinson, and Killian Ryan each collected one hit for Post 44. Braiden Noskey and Robinson each drove in one run for Post 44 Blues.

In game six, a sixth-inning burst enough to lead Gaylord Varsity past Soo. Gaylord Varsity defeated the Black Sox 7-0 on Saturday evening thanks in part to four runs in the sixth inning.

A ground out by Rylan Rosso put Gaylord Varsity on the board in the bottom of the first.

Gaylord Varsity added one run in the second. Howard Samples singled down the right field line, making the score 2-0.

King earned the win for Gaylord Varsity. The hurler gave up four hits and zero runs over five and two-thirds innings, striking out six and walking three. Lucas Carriere took the loss for the Black Sox. The starting pitcher went five and one-third innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits, striking out two and walking none.

The Soo’s Owen James, the number seven hitter, led the Black Sox with two hits in three at bats.

Gaylord Varsity amassed ten hits in the game. Greenier, Torino Lamerato, Ethan Ford, and Samples each collected two hits for Gaylord Varsity. Greenier and Samples each drove in two runs for Gaylord Varsity. Gaylord Varsity didn’t commit a single error in the field. Brett Koscielniak had the most chances in the field with eight.

Next up for the Black will be a four game weekend on the road when they head north to take on the Thunder Bay 18U Lakers on August 1st to 3rd weekend.
