Soo 18U Black Sox Bring Home Gold from 2022 Leamington Invitational

In the gold medal game in Leamington, Ontario at the 2022 Leamington Invitational the Soo 18U Black Sox took to Kinsmen Baseball Diamond to face the Leamington 18U Lakers on Sunday, July 24th.

Black Sox 18U defeated 18U Lakers 12-7 thanks to a strong start. Black Sox 18U scored on a single by Ty Beaupre and a sacrifice fly by Matthew Forsey in the second inning.

Black Sox 18U earned the victory despite allowing 18U Lakers to score four runs in the fourth inning. The offensive firepower by 18U Lakers was led by Nevan Branco, Benny Giesbrecht, and Nathan Krahn , who all drove in runs.
Black Sox 18U pulled away for good with three runs in the second inning. In the second Beaupre singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run, Wesley Pomeroy was hit by a pitch, driving in a run, and Forsey’s sac fly scored one run for Black Sox 18U.

Black Sox 18U scored five runs in the fifth inning. Carmine Perna, Michael Starzomski, and Keyton Mousseau powered the big inning with RBIs.

Owen Daynard was the winning pitcher for Black Sox 18U. The ace surrendered seven runs on 11 hits over five and a third innings, striking out two. Michael Hapanovich threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Giesbrecht took the loss for Lakers18u 18U. The righty went one and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out one.

Black Sox 18U collected 12 hits on the day. Beaupre, Starzomski, Forsey, and Mousseau each managed multiple hits for Black Sox 18U. Starzomski and Beaupre each collected three hits to lead Black Sox 18U.

The 18U Lakers racked up 11 hits. Curtis Chorba, Krahn , and Vito Alfano all collected multiple hits for 18U Lakers.

Black Sox 18U Takes the Win Over 18U Wyoming Wranglers
At 11:00 a.m on Sunday, July 24th, the Black Sox 18U got on the board in the first inning. Matthew Forsey grounded out, scoring one run.

18U Wyoming Wranglers knotted the game up at one in the top of the third inning. Jacob Mccann’s sac fly scored one run for 18U Wyoming Wranglers.

Black Sox 18U pulled away for good with two runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Cole Masse singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

Masse was the winning pitcher for Black Sox 18U. The righty lasted seven innings, allowing six hits and two runs while striking out seven and walking zero.

Noah Needham took the loss for 18U Wyoming Wranglers. The pitcher lasted five innings, allowing five hits and four runs.

Wesley Pomeroy led Black Sox 18U with two hits in three at bats.

Tyler Kerby went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead 18U Wyoming Wranglers in hits.

Port Lambton Pirates 18u Almost Erases 7-Run Deficit In Loss To Black Sox 18U
Despite seeing its seven-run lead whittled down by the end, Black Sox 18U still held off Port Lambton Pirates 18u for a 9-7 victory at 4:00 p.m on Saturday, July23rd. Port Lambton Pirates 18u scored five runs in the failed comeback on a single by C Rosseel, a walk by D Bunda, a sacrifice fly by L Lepire, a single by C Sites, and a fielder’s choice by R Bowen.

An early lead helped propel Black Sox 18U to victory. Black Sox 18U scored on a single by Michael Hapanovich, a single by Michael Biocchi, a single by Connor Bruzas, a single by Wesley Pomeroy, a single by Matthew Forsey, a fielder’s choice by Michael Starzomski, and a groundout by Keyton Mousseau in the second inning.

Black Sox 18U pulled away for good with seven runs in the second inning. In the second Hapanovich singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run, Biocchi singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run, Bruzas singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run, Pomeroy singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run, Forsey singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run, B St Pierre induced Starzomski to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored, and Mousseau grounded out, scoring one run.

Hapanovich led the Black Sox 18U to victory on the pitcher’s mound. The pitcher lasted three innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out two and walking zero. Bruzas and Carmine Perna entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

St Pierre took the loss for Port Lambton Pirates 18u. St pierre surrendered nine runs on eight hits over three innings, striking out one.

Nolan Toni started the game for Black Sox 18U. The righthander allowed one hit and two runs over one inning, walking one.

Black Sox 18U tallied 12 hits. Forsey and Starzomski each collected multiple hits for Black Sox 18U. Forsey went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Black Sox 18U in hits.

Black Sox 18U Defeats Corunna In A Blow-Out Victory
On Saturday, July 23rd at 1:00 p.m, the Black Sox 18U asserted their will over Corunna on their way to an easy 10-2 victory.

In the first inning, Black Sox 18U got their offense started when an error scored one run for Black Sox 18U.
Black Sox 18U scored five runs in the sixth inning. Black Sox 18U’s big bats in the inning were led by singles by Michael Biocchi, Ty Beaupre, and Matthew Forsey, a sacrifice fly by Wesley Pomeroy, and an error on a ball put in play by Carter Young.

Forsey earned the victory on the mound for Black Sox 18U. The righthander went six innings, allowing two runs on three hits, striking out five and walking zero. Nolan Toni threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Casyn Foster took the loss for Corunna. Foster lasted five innings, allowing five hits and four runs while striking out three and walking one.

Black Sox 18U scattered 11 hits in the game. Jayce Hill-Pine and Forsey each had multiple hits for Black Sox 18U.

Hill-Pine went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Black Sox 18U in hits.

C Stewart led Corunna with two hits in three at bats.

Two Pitchers Team Up As Black Sox 18U Defeats Leamington Lakers 18u In Shut-Out
Black Sox 18U defeated Leamington Lakers 18u 1-0 on Friday, July 22nd as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Owen Daynard struck out Benny Geisbrecht to finish off the game.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Black Sox 18U pitchers struck out nine, while Leamington Lakers 18u pitchers sat down seven.

One bright spot for Leamington Lakers 18u was a single by Vito Alfano in the first inning.

Cole Masse took the win for Black Sox 18U. The righty allowed four hits and zero runs over four and a third innings, striking out six and walking zero. Daynard threw two and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen. Daynard recorded the last eight outs to earn the save for Black Sox 18U.

Lucas Ingatta took the loss for Leamington Lakers 18u. The pitcher surrendered one run on one hit over three and a third innings, striking out three and walking one.

Colin Sirois and Wesley Pomeroy each managed one hit to lead Black Sox 18U. Black Sox 18U was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Sirois had the most chances in the field with 11.

Leamington Lakers 18u totaled seven hits. Ben Recker, Alfano, and Nathan Krahn each racked up multiple hits for Leamington Lakers 18u.
