On Monday, December 8th, and Tuesday, December 9th, the hardcourt was busy across Sault Ste. Marie as six games highlighted an exciting two days of local high school girls volleyball. With both junior and senior divisions in action, fans were treated to tight sets, comeback wins, and strong early-season statements.
Monday Recap
In junior play to start the week, the Superior Heights Steelhawks edged out the St. Mary’s Knights in a thrilling 2–1 match. After dropping the opening set 22–25, the Steelhawks dug in to take the next two sets 25–19 and 16–14, sealing a narrow but well-earned victory.
The senior match that followed saw St. Mary’s respond with a strong performance of their own, defeating Superior Heights 2–0. The Knights controlled the pace throughout the match, taking the sets 25–17 and 25–19 to split the day’s honours between the two schools.
Tuesday Recap
Tuesday brought four more matches to the schedule, starting with the St. Mary’s junior squad earning a 2–1 win over the White Pines Wolverines. After a dominant 25–9 opening set, the Wolverines battled back to win the second 25–22, before the Knights closed things out 15–10 in the deciding set.
Superior Heights added another junior win on Tuesday with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over the Korah Colts. The Colts opened with a 25–22 win, but the Steelhawks stormed back with a 25–11 second set and held on in a tight 17–15 third set.
In senior action, St. Mary’s continued their momentum with a clean 2–0 sweep over White Pines, winning 25–22 and 25–11. The Korah Colts rounded out the night with a strong straight-set victory over Superior Heights, taking the match 25–12 and 25–19.
Looking Ahead
Girls high school volleyball continues on Thursday, December 11th, when the White Pines Wolverines travel to Korah Collegiate to take on the Colts. The St. Mary’s Knights will next meet the Colts on Tuesday, December 16th, while the Steelhawks are set to face the Wolverines at White Pines that same evening. Junior games begin at 4:30 p.m, followed by senior action at 5:30 p.m.
