At the Rankin Arena on Tuesday, December 8th, the Superior Heights Steelhawks delivered a statement performance in Sault Ste. Marie High School Girls Hockey action, skating to a decisive victory over the CASS Huskies.
The Steelhawks came out firing in the opening frame, striking five times in a relentless first period. Mathea Brown opened the scoring at 14:03 with her first of the season, followed by goals from Grace Curran, Zara Zavoral, and Alexe Villebrun, who continued her strong campaign with her fifth of the season. Ava Mount capped the explosive period with a late tally at 00:50 to send Superior Heights into the intermission firmly in control.
The momentum carried into the second period, where the Steelhawks added two more. Mount notched her second of the game at 9:04, and Villebrun buried her sixth of the season just minutes later, extending the lead and tightening the grip on the game.
Superior Heights closed out the night with another dominant third period. Mount completed her hat trick with an unassisted marker at 12:23, before Villebrun took over the scoring, striking twice more—including her eighth of the season—to finish the game with an impressive four-goal performance. Strong setup work from Fiona Prophet, Grace Curran, and Chloe Austin highlighted the Steelhawks’ depth and teamwork throughout the contest.
Kaydence Wardell stood tall between the pipes, backstopping the Steelhawks to victory and earning her second shutout of the season with a composed and confident performance. At the opposite end, Claire Henshell handled the goaltending duties for the Huskies, battling hard throughout the matchup at the Rankin Arena.
Up next, the Superior Heights Steelhawks will take on the St. Mary’s Knights on December 10th at 2:30 p.m., while the CASS Huskies will look to rebound on December 12th when they host the Knights in Thessalon for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop.
