After a quarter final post season win due to a forfeit, the junior varsity Sault Sabercats took to the field at Superior Heights in Sault Ste Marie on Saturday, July 30th when they played host to the visiting Brantford Bisons in Ontario Summer Football League action.
With 2:35 remaining in the opening quarter, Sabercat Kaylob Thibodeau carries the ball for a five-yard touchdown carry to give the Sault a 6 – 0 lead. 3:56 into the second quarter Brantford’s quarterback Ben Spangenberger rushes for two yards to score the Bisons’ first major of the contest to tie the game 6 – 6 for the visitors. Kaylob Thibodeau runs the ball for the Sault’s second touchdown of the game at 5:23 of the second quarter to give the Sabercats a 12 – 6 lead. Nate Carter added the extra point for a Sault conversion to bring the lead to 13 – 6. Sam Caven pulls the Bisons within one for Brantford at 4:45 at the second with. Ryan Harrison ties the game 13 – 13 with a conversion. With 36.6 seconds remaining the half, the Bisons head into halftime up 14 – 13 with one point with a tackle in the Sabercats’ endzone.
Carter Hogg increases the visitors lead to 20 – 13 with a 13 yard pass from Spangenberger at 8:51 of the third. Harrison found the uprights for his second straight conversion to bring the lead to 21 – 13. With the clock at 0:00 of the third, Sabercat quarterback Matti Tucker finds Nate Carter for a 34 yard pass to close the gap to 21 – 19. On a 47 yard touchdown carry, Gabriel Hamilton secures the Bisons’ win at 5:14 of the final quarter to give Brantford a 27 – 19 win and advance to the OSFL 16U final in London, Ontario on August 6th.
