Only seven points separated the third place (40-15-5-2) Windsor Spitfires when they took to the ice on Thursday, March 12th to open up their three game road trip against the visiting fourth place (37-19-1-5) Soo Greyhounds in Western Conference action. The Greyhounds have 80 points while the Spitfires have 87 points just two points behind second place Flint Firebirds. The 2025–2026 series between Soo and Windsor sat at 2–2 heading into the matchup. The Greyhounds were coming off a 2–0 win over the Guelph Storm on March 7th in Guelph while the Spitfires entered Thursday’s contest following a 5–2 win over the Kitchener Rangers in Windsor on March 8th.
The Spitfires opened the scoring midway through the first period while on a four-minute power play. At 9:17, Anthony Cristoforo buried his 19th goal of the season to give Windsor a 1–0 lead. The power play marker was set up by Jack Nesbitt and Liam Greentree.
The Greyhounds answered back before the period ended. At 12:08, Brady Martin evened the game at 1–1 with his sixth goal of the season, finishing a play created by Marco Mignosa and Jordan Charron.
Soo grabbed their first lead early in the second. At 3:34 on the power play, Marco Mignosa notched his 32nd goal of the season to give the Greyhounds a 2–1 advantage. Jakub Winkelhofer and Jeremy Martin recorded the assists on the go-ahead marker.
Windsor responded quickly just over a minute later. At 4:45, Anthony Cristoforo struck again with his second power play goal of the night and 20th of the season, tying the game 2–2. Jack Nesbitt and Liam Greentree once again picked up the assists.
The Spitfires reclaimed the lead later in the period. At 10:51, Caden Harvey scored his 11th of the season to make it 3–2 for Windsor, with Beksultan Makysh collecting the lone assist.
The Greyhounds pushed back in the third period and found the equalizer midway through the frame. At 9:09, Marco Mignosa scored his second goal of the game and 33rd of the season to tie things 3–3, finishing a setup from Callum Croskery.
The extra frame didn’t last long as Mignosa completed a dominant night. At 2:26 of overtime, he fired home his 34th goal of the season to secure the 4–3 victory for the Greyhounds and complete his second hat trick of the season. Brady Martin and Lukas Fischer assisted on the game-winning goal.
For the Greyhounds, Carter George turned aside 27 of 30 shots in his 20th game wearing a Soo jersey. At the other end, Joey Costanzo made 22 saves on 26 shots for the Spitfires.
The Soo’s next game will see the Greyhounds travel to face the Flint Firebirds on Friday, March 13th, with puck drop scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Flint.
