After opening the 2026 GNU18HL Playoff Tournament with a 4–1 victory over the Sudbury U18 Wolves on March 11 in New Liskeard, the (1–0) Soo U18 Greyhounds returned to the ice on Thursday, March 12 to face the (0–1) Sudbury U16 Wolves on day two of AAA tournament action. The U16 Wolves entered the matchup looking to bounce back after a day-one loss to the North Bay U18 Trappers.
The Sudbury U16 Wolves struck first late in the opening period. At 12:42 of the first, Sudbury capitalized on the power play when Jackson Mead notched his second goal of the postseason, giving the Wolves a 1–0 lead. The tally came with assists from Alex Proulx and Tayden Smith, putting early pressure on the Greyhounds.
The Soo U18 Greyhounds responded in the second period with a crucial special-teams opportunity of their own. At 17:13 of the second, while on a five-on-three power play, Dreyon Boissoneau buried his first goal of the postseason to tie the game at 1–1. Frankie Reda picked up the assist on the play, helping the Greyhounds even the score heading into the final frame.
The decisive moment came late in the third period. With 1:28 remaining, Makks Demidovich broke through for the Greyhounds, slipping the puck five-hole on Sudbury goaltender Noah Jylha at 18:32 for his first goal of the postseason. The goal was unassisted and proved to be the game-winner, giving the Greyhounds a 2–1 victory.
With the win, the Soo U18 Greyhounds improve to 2–0 in the tournament and will next face the (1–0) North Bay U18 Trappers later on March 12 in New Liskeard, with puck drop scheduled for 8:00 p.m. The matchup will feature two undefeated teams as the Greyhounds look to continue their strong start in tournament play.
