The Korah Colts improved to 2-1 on the Sault Ste. Marie high school football season with a convincing 37-13 victory over the Superior Heights Steelhawks on Friday afternoon at Superior Heights Field.
Both teams entered the junior matchup with identical 1-1 records, but it was the Colts who took control after a competitive opening quarter and continued to build their lead throughout the second half.
Superior Heights opened the scoring at the 5:23 mark of the first quarter when Chris Porter-Wilson intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown. Ben Campbell added the extra point to give the Steelhawks an early 7-0 advantage.
Korah answered late in the opening quarter. At 2:35, Keigan Thomson found the end zone for the Colts, followed by a successful two-point conversion from Davian Clarke, putting Korah ahead 8-7 after the opening quarter.
The Colts continued to extend their lead in the second quarter. With just 38.7 seconds remaining in the half, Thomas Ubaldi scored a major touchdown for Korah. Thomson followed with the successful convert, giving the Colts a 16-7 advantage heading into halftime.
Korah continued its offensive push in the third quarter. At 1:35, Thomson scored his second touchdown of the game, extending the Colts’ lead to 22-7.
The Colts added another major early in the fourth quarter. At 11:51, Ubaldi scored his second touchdown of the contest, while Grayson Thornton hauled in the ball for the successful two-point conversion, increasing Korah’s lead to 30-7.
Superior Heights continued to battle and responded at the 5:51 mark when Kymani Perrault-Dedier scored the Steelhawks’ second touchdown of the game, cutting the deficit to 30-13.
Korah quickly answered. Just 26 seconds later, at 5:25, Grayson Thornton scored a touchdown, with Keigan Thomson adding the convert to complete the scoring and give the Colts a 37-13 victory.
The win moves Korah to 2-1 on the junior high school football season, while Superior Heights falls to 1-2.
Upcoming Action
The Steelhawks will return to action on Thursday, October 1, when they face the White Pines Wolverines in a 5:30 p.m. kickoff.
The Korah Colts will be back on the field on Friday, October 2, when they take on the St. Mary’s Knights in a 4:45 p.m. matchup at Superior Heights Field.
With the regular season continuing to take shape, both teams will look to build on Friday’s performances as they prepare for their next games.
