At Superior Heights Field on Friday, September 25th, the undefeated (2-0) Korah Colts squared off against the (1-1) Superior Heights Steelhawks in week three of Sault Ste. Marie Senior High School Football action.
Colts Explode in the First Quarter
Korah set the tone immediately on the opening kickoff. Just eight seconds into the game, Ryder Strachan exploded for an 85-yard touchdown return, and an AJ Coccimiglio extra point quickly put the Colts ahead 7-0.
The offensive momentum continued midway through the opening frame. At the 6:40 mark, Colt quarterback Brett Koski connected on a 32-yard pass to Drew Albury, who finished the drive with a four-yard touchdown run. Coccimiglio’s successful conversion extended the advantage to 14-0.
With 2:19 remaining in the first quarter, Koski found Coccimiglio on a 14-yard completion, setting up a 16-yard touchdown rush to push the lead to 21-0 following another Coccimiglio extra point. Korah capped off a dominant first period with just 34.2 seconds left on the clock when Koski completed a one-yard pass to Payton Melchiorre, who broke away for a 35-yard touchdown. Coccimiglio added the extra point to give the Colts a commanding 28-0 lead after 12 minutes.
Korah Extends Lead Before Halftime
Superior Heights got on the board early in the second quarter when kicker Gabe Beaton split the uprights on a 32-yard field goal at 10:25, trimming the deficit to 28-3.
However, Korah responded swiftly. Koski threw a two-yard pass to Greyson Avery, who took it 13 yards into the endzone for a Colt touchdown. Coccimiglio converted the PAT to make it 35-3. Coccimiglio then added back-to-back field goals late in the quarter—drilling a 28-yarder at 5:16 and a 22-yarder with only 5.7 seconds remaining—sending Korah into the halftime break holding a massive 41-3 advantage.
Second-Half Action and Final Score
Korah scored their final points of the contest at 3:01 of the third quarter with another touchdown and an extra point from Coccimiglio.
Superior Heights continued to battle, answering with a late touchdown drive, Steelhawk quarterback Chase Cerasuolo punched the ball in from one yard out, breaching the Korah goal line for a touchdown. Following a successful conversion by Gabe Beaton, the final score stood at 49-10 in favor of the Colts.
Looking Ahead
The Steelhawks now enter a two-week bye before returning to regular season play on Friday, October 9th, when they face the St. Mary’s Knights under the lights in a 7:30 p.m kickoff. Meanwhile, the Colts return to action sooner, taking on the Knights on Friday, October 2nd at 7:30 p.m.
