Greyhounds Fall to the Battalion on the Road in North Bay

In their fourth meeting of the 2022 – 2023 season, the fifth place west division (12-14-7-4) Soo Greyhounds hit the road for a three game road trip beginning Thursday, January 12th to take on the first place central division (27-10-0-1) Battalion in North Bay in Ontario Hockey League action. The Greyhounds are coming off a 6 – 3 win over the London Knights in Sault Ste Marie.

Registering his third point of the contest with his second goal, Petrov fires the tying goal from between the faceoff circles all alone through traffic to tie the game 3 – 3 for North Bay. Pasquale Zito and Tarasevich set up Petrov’s tying goal at 7:32. Battalion’s Ty Nelson scores his second of the period at 11:02 from the centre of the blueline through traffic to find the back of the Soo’s net over Ivanov’s catcher to give North Bay a 4 – 3 lead. Brayden Turley and Zito had the assists on Nelson’s go-ahead goal. With 1.5 seconds remaining in the period, Avery Winslow skates around Soo defenseman Kirill Kudryavtsev to the right of the Greyhound net to lift the Battalion’s fifth of the game to send North Bay into the second intermission up 5 – 3. Pasquale Zito had the lone contributor on Winslow’s first of the season. From between the faceoff circle in the Soo’s zone, Kyle McDonald cushions the Battalion’s lead to 6 – 3 with his twelfth of the season at the 2:48 mark of the third. Ty Nelson drew the assist on McDonald’s goal. Jordan D’Intino picks up a rebound off of Robertson 22 seconds past the halfway mark of the period to pull the Greyhounds with two for his sixteenth of the season. Mignosa and Matthew Virgilio had the helpers on Soo’s fourth of the game. With Ivanov on the Soo’s bench for an extra attacker with 3:18 left in Thursday’s contest, McDonald slides an unassisted empty net goal in for North Bay to give the Battalion a 7 – 4 win/lead. North Bay goaltender Charlie Robertson stopped 31 of 35 shots in the 7 – 4 win over the Soo while Greyhound netminder Samuel Ivanov turned away 28 of 34 shots in the Greyhounds’ fifteenth loss of the season. With the win, the Battalion earn four points compared the Greyhounds’ three points in the four 2022 – 2023 meetings.

Game two of the Greyhounds road trip will be in Barrie for a Saturday, January 14th matchup against the Colts in a 7:30 p.m puck drop.
