Gioia and Rumiel Register Two Points Each to Help Lift Steelhawks Past Colts

The Korah Colts took to the ice on Monday, November 22 at the John Rhodes Centre to face the Superior Heights Steelhawks in an afternoon Sault Ste Marie High School Hockey League matinee.

Seven seconds into the opening period, Superior Heights Dylan Murphy finds the back of Korah goaltender Michael Flumian’s net to give the Steelhawks a 1 – 0 lead. Johnny Ivic and Tristan Gioia drew the assists on Murphy’s goal. Clark Palmer sinks the second goal for the Steelhawks 1:40 into the first to bring Superior Heights a 2 – 0 lead with a lone helper from Ray Rumiel. At 5:43 of the first, Brett Morgan scores the Colts first goal behind Steelhawk netminder Isaac Rice to pull Superior Heights within one. Dylan Garson notched the contributor on Morgan’s goal. Owen Case puts the Steelhawks ahead 3 – 1 at the 3:48 mark of the second with Ryan Klooster and Rumiel drawing the assists on Case’s goal. Korah’s Cole Arruda sets up Colt Ronan Provenzano’s goal at 2:46 to close the gap to one for Korah to make the game 3 – 2 for the Steelhawks. With 89 seconds remaining in the period, Carter Benka fires the tying goal for Korah with Nathan Keranen registering the helper on Benka’s tying goal. At seven minutes even of the third, Gioia sinks the game winner for Superior Heights with Malcolm Robere McGuigan and Connor Ouimette adding the assists on Gioia’s game winner.

The Colts will now face the league leading St Mary’s Knights on Sunday, November 28 in a 8:00 p.m puck drop at the Memorial Gardens while the Steelhawks take one the Knights in a 3:30 p.m start on Wednesday, December 1 at the John Rhodes Centre.
