On Thursday, September 19th, the (1-1) St Mary’s Knights took to the field at Superior Heights to take on the (0-2) White Pines Wolverines in senior Sault Ste Marie High School Football action.
At 9:05 of the opening quarter, Knight quarterback Matti Tucker fires a 38 yard pass to Nicholas Carney to run a seven yard touchdown carry into the Wolverines end zone. Micah Cuglietta found the uprights for the extra point to give the Knights a 7 – 0 lead. Jarett Dewar carries the ball eight yards for a St Mary’s touchdown to bring the Knights lead to 13 – 0 with 73 seconds left in the first quarter. Nashoba Moore kneels in the Wolverines endzone to concede a safety to increase the lead to 15 – 0 at the 8:16 mark of the second quarter. Tucker finds Will Iodence in White Pines endzone with an eight yard pass to give the Knights a 22 – 0 lead after Cuglietta kicks the extra point for St Mary’s at 2:11 of the half. With 1:52 left in the first half, Cuglietta kicked a rolling ball through the White Pines endzone for a rouge to bring the lead to 23 – 0 for the Knights. Tucker fires a 20 yard pass through the air to find Cole Rivet in the endzone for a Knight major at 1:28 of the second quarter. At 7:23 of the third quarter, Max Fenchak catches a Matti Tucker 29 yard pass to bring the lead to 37 – 0 after Cuglietta notched the extra point for St Mary’s. With 59.1 seconds remaining the the contest, Liam Ouellett picks off a Wolverine Owen Brown pass to rush for a St Mary’s 83 yard touchdown to improve the Knights record to 2 – 1 after a 43 – 0 win over the Wolverines.
The Knights next opponent will be the Korah Colts on Thursday, September 26th in a 7:30 p.m kickoff while the Wolverines will face the Superior Heights Steelhawks on Friday, September 27th with a 7:30 p.m start.
