
On Wednesday, July 16th, the Soo 18U Black Sox headed to Petoskey, Michigan to take on the Northern Michigan Patriots in a doubleheader.
The Black Sox defeated Northern Michigan Patriots 18U 6-4 after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at four in the top of the eighth when Thomas Keough doubled, scoring two runs.
Kolton Tremblay collected five hits in five at bats in the win. Tremblay singled in the first inning, singled in the second inning, singled in the fourth inning, and singled in the sixth inning.
The Soo got on the board in the top of the first inning after Lucas Carriere was struck by a pitch, Chase Cerasuolo singled to the right side of the infield, Ryan Oliver walked, and Owen James walked, each scoring one run.
Northern Michigan tied the game in the bottom of the seventh thanks to an error, and a single by Oliver.
Tye Turco earned the win for the Black Sox. The hurler gave up 11 hits and four runs over seven and two-thirds innings, striking out seven and walking none. Corbin Allen took the loss for the Patriots. The hurler went two innings, allowing zero runs on two hits, striking out two and walking one. Hunter Lemerand began the game for Northern Michigan. The pitcher allowed three hits and four runs over one inning, striking out one and walking three.
The Black Sox piled up 11 hits in the game. Keough provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Soo with two runs batted in. The outfielder went 1-for-4 on the day. Cerasuolo collected two hits for the Black Sox in five at bats. James led the Soo with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game.
The Patriots amassed 11 hits in the game. Allen, Sean Pastula, and Oliver each collected two hits for Northern Michigan. Oliver went 2-for-2 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in.
Next up for the Black Sox 18U on Wednesday for the second game of the midweek clash against the Patriots with the Soo scored nine runs in the fifth inning, which helped them defeat Northern Michigan 13-5 on Wednesday. Daniel Stocco drew a walk, scoring one run, Lucas DiBerardino singled, scoring one run, Tye Turco drew a walk, scoring one run, a wild pitch scored one run, Chase Cerasuolo drew a walk, scoring one run, Thomas Keough singled, scoring one run, Ty Cond drew a walk, scoring one run, Logan Rohe singled, scoring one run, and Stocco drew a walk, scoring one run.
The Black Sox opened the scoring in the second after Stocco drew a walk, scoring one run.
Kolly singled to the right side of the infield, which helped the Patriots tie the game at one in the bottom of the second.
The Soo took the lead in the top of the third inning after Lucas Carriere singled to the left side of the infield, Cond walked, and Rohe singled down the left field line, each scoring one run.
The Patriots took the lead in the bottom of the third inning after Korbyn Russell singled to center field, Hunter Lemerand singled to center field, Kolly walked, and Corbin Allen walked, each scoring one run.
Carriere earned the win for the Black Sox. The pitcher surrendered one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out one and walking none. Matthew Kane took the loss for Northern Michigan. The righty went two-thirds of an inning, allowing four runs on two hits, striking out one and walking five. Kolton Tremblay led things off on the mound for Soo Black Sox 18U. The starting pitcher gave up four hits and five runs (three earned) over three innings, striking out four and walking seven. Oliver led things off on the mound for the Patriots. The hurler gave up zero hits and one run over two innings, striking out five and walking four.
Stocco, the number nine hitter for the Soo, led the way with three runs batted in. DiBerardino, Keough, and Rohe each collected two hits for the Black Sox. Cond led the Soo with four walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up 14 walks for the game.
Luke Lovelace, Lemerand, Kane, Russell, and Kolly each collected one hit for Northern Michigan. Lemerand, Russell, Allen, and Kolly each drove in one run for the Patriots. Owen Hendrix led Northern Michigan with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game. The Patriots were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Lovelace had the most chances in the field with ten.
The Black Sox will travel to Sault Ste Marie, Michigan to take on EUP Wood Ducks on Monday, July 21st for a doubleheader with opening pitches at 4:00 p.m and 6:00 p.m.
