Another Soo Greyhounds Signs Entry-Level NHL Contract

2013-14 SOO GREYHOUNDS LOGOEarlier today, Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning on Thursday July 24th that the NHL club has signed centre Jared McCann to an entry-level contract with the club.

The London, Ontario product was selected in the 1st Round (24th overall) of this past June's NHL Entry Draft by the Canucks.

"All of our players are working towards earning an NHL contract and to see Jared accomplish that makes us very happy as an organization and we are thrilled for him and his family" began Greyhounds Head Coach Sheldon Keefe.

Most rushing touchdowns in a Northern Football Conference season goes to Josh Gauthier of the Sault crossed the goal line 4 times versus the Ottawa Invaders and has upped his season total to 28. This surpasses the mark of 25 that he set last season.

One more touchdown would set the most touchdowns in a season with Gauthier co-holding this mark with Dan McAlonan at 25 and Dan set while with the Hamilton Wildcats back in 1995. Gauthier still has one more game to add to this mark versus the Toronto Raiders this week.

OVFL Sabercats Handed Costly Loss in Final Regular Season Game

sabercatsThe Ontario Varsity Football League Sault Sabercats (4 – 3) hit the field on Saturday July 19th at Superior Heights in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario against the Lions from Cambridge, Ontario who entered the game with a 5 – 2 record. With a win, the Sabercats would earn home field advantage in the Ontario Varsity Football League quarter-finals in Sault Ste Marie.

With two minutes left in the game, Ray Duplin intercepted a Cambridge pass and gave the Sabercats the final possession of the ball for the rest of the game and only needing to run the ball with a 32 – 30 lead heading into the last 20 seconds, the Sault decided to pass the ball that was intercepted by the Lions and setting up a field goal to give the visiting Lions a 33 -32 win and costing the Sabercats a home field advantage in the first round of OVFL playoffs.

OHL Greyhound GM Kyle Dubas Head to the Toronto Maple Leafs

Kyle DubasSoo Greyhounds President & Chairman of the Board Dr. Lou Lukenda, in conjunction with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment announced July 22nd that Kyle Dubas has been hired by the National Hockey League Club as Assistant General Manager, effective immediately.

The Greyhounds granted permission last week to Maple Leafs President of Hockey Operations Brendan Shanahan to speak to Dubas, making this advancement possible.
