Growing the Gridiron is a FREE youth football skills development clinic designed by Ontario University Athletics (OUA) to promote fun, participation and safe play in football.
The program is a non contact, non equipment football clinic, open to boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 14 years old age.
With over one week until their 2014-15 season opener (Fri. Sept 26 vs Sarnia), the Soo Greyhounds have trimmed their roster a little bit further.
General Manager Kyle Raftis confirmed earlier today that Mac Hollowell and Jack Kopacka have been re-assigned within the last seven days.
Hollowell, originally selected by the Hounds' in the 12th Round of this past April's OHL Priority Selection will begin play with the Niagara Falls Canucks (members of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League) while Kopacka, who was selected in the 8th Round of this April's draft will suit up for the Compuware Major Midget program.
The Soo Thunderbirds AAA midget major team journeyed to Grand Rapids, Michigan over the September 12th - 14th weekend to face the powerful Michigan Nationals. The Nationals feature ten 18 year old's on their roster.
In game one on Saturday afternoon the Thunderbirds suffered a hard fought 5-3 defeat. Trailing 3-1 heading into the 3rd period the Birds scored two quick goals to even the score. The Nationals scored a pair in the final six minutes to secure the win.
The Algoma Thunderbirds soccer teams were winless again this past weekend, after losing four games to the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday and Sunday afternoon at Superior Heights.
In women's action, Waterloo came out ahead 11-0 and 12-0 on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The Southern Ontario squad pulled ahead early on both days, scoring in the opening minutes of each game. They move ahead to a 5-1 record in the OUA West.
