After an 8 – 2 loss to open 2022 on Wednesday, February 23rd to the St Mary’s Knights, the Superior Heights Steelhawks returned to Sault Ste Marie High School Hockey League action on Thursday, February 24th to take on the Korah Colts in an afternoon matchup at the John Rhodes Centre.
At 4:22 of the first period, Connor Ouimette finds the back of Korah netminder Matthew Gagne’s net with an unassisted goal to give the Steelhawks a 1 – 0 lead. At 13:04 of the middle stanza, Kaylob Thibodeau fires the tying goal behind Steelhawk goaltender Tyler Greco to pull the Colts even 1 – 1. Tyson Culina and Brett Morgan drew the helpers on Thibodeau’s tying goal. Brady Duchense sinks the go-ahead for Superior Heights at the twelve minute mark with Ouimette and Ray Rumiel notching the contributors on Duchense’s goal. 36 past the midway mark of the second period, Thibodeau scores his second tying goal of the game with Culina and Ewan Hemsworth setting up Korah’s second goal of the contest. Nathan Keranen sets up Noah Case to find the back of Greco’s net at 7:48 to give the Colts a 3 – 2 lead. With Superior Heights being awarded a penalty shot with 59 seconds remaining in the period, Tristan Gioia sends the game into the second imtermission tied at 3 – 3. Dylan Garson gives Korah a 4 – 3 lead at 7:28 of the third with finding the back of the Steelhawks net unassisted. Ronan Provenzano secures the Colts 5 – 3 win with Korah’s fifth of the game with 76 seconds left in the game. Keranen and Brady Bales registered the assists on Provenzano’s goal.
Korah next two games will be against the St Mary’s Knights with games on February 25th at 7:30 p.m at the John Rhodes and February 27th with a 8:00 p.m start at the Memorial Gardens while the Steelhawks face the Knights on March 2nd at the John Rhodes in a 3;30 p.m puck drop.
