Thibodeau and Metcalf Register Three Points Each in Colts Win Over Steelhawks

After a 4 – 3 win to open 2023 on January 3rd over the Superior Heights Steelhawks, the Korah Colts returned to the ice on Wednesday, January 4th to face the Steelhawks twice in 24 hours for Sault Ste Marie High School Hockey League action.

With the Steelhawks on a powerplay, Liam Willet finds the back of Colt netminder Kris Walker’s net to give Superior Heights a 1 – 0 lead. Michael Wiest and Tristan Gioia drew the assists on Willet’s powerplay marker at 4:28 of the opening period. Parker Rushton pulls Korah even 1 – 1 with 73 seconds remaining in the first with a Colt goal behind Steelhawk goaltender Tristan Tranberg. Dylan Garson and Jack Metcalf drew the helpers on Rushton’s tying goal. Connor Ouimette scores the go-ahead goal for the Steelhawks 1:43 into the middle stanza with Tristan Gioia contributing on Ouimette’s goal. Dylan Garson registers his second point of the game at 1:25 of the second with a Korah goal to tie the game 2 – 2 for the Colts. Kaylob Thibodeau and Jack Metcalf notched the assists on Garson’s tying goal. Scoring their second powerplay goal of the game, Dylan Murphy gives Superior Heights the lead back at 3:24 of the second with Clark Parker and Owen Case setting up Murphy’s tying goal. 49 seconds into the final period, Kaylob Thibodeau finds the back of Tranberg’s net to even the game 3 – 3 for Korah with Metcalf adding the helper on Thibodeau’s tying goal. Eleven seconds before the halfway mark of the period, Brady Bayles sinks the Colts fourth of the game to give Korah a 4 – 3 lead. Kaylob Thibodeau and Metcalf had the contributors on Bayles go-ahead goal. With Tranberg on the Steelhawk bench for an extra attacker, Connor Chow Lynn scores an empty net goal to give the Colts a 5 – 3 win over Superior Heights.

Next in high school hockey action will be at the John Rhodes Centre on Monday, January 9th with the Colts facing the St Mary’s Knights in a 3:30 p.m puck drop while the Steelhawks take on Korah for a January 19th matchup with a start at 3:30 p.m at the John Rhodes Centre.
