At Rankin Arena on Monday, March 2nd, the Superior Heights Steelhawks stepped onto home ice with one goal in mind — capturing the 2026 Sault Ste Marie Girl’s High School Hockey League City Championship. Standing in their way were the Korah Colts, determined to extend the series and keep their championship hopes alive.
Superior Heights wasted little time setting the tone in the opening period. At 2:35 of the first, Lucy Curran opened the scoring with her first goal of the season, finishing a strong passing play from Grace Curran and Zara Zavoral to give the Steelhawks a 1–0 lead.
The Steelhawks continued to build momentum in the second period. At 13:36, Alexe Villebrun struck for her third goal of the season, doubling the lead to 2–0. Once again, the play was sparked by Grace Curran, who picked up her second assist of the night, along with Ava Mount, as Superior Heights controlled the pace through forty minutes.
Korah pushed back in the third period and found the scoreboard at 7:46 when Harlee Cote notched her fifth goal of the season, cutting the deficit. Sarah Sousa and Nikki Steinburg assisted on the play, giving the Colts a surge of momentum and narrowing the score to 2–1.
However, the Steelhawks responded quickly. At 2:12, Alexe Villebrun restored the two-goal cushion with her second of the game and fourth of the season, finishing a setup from Grace Curran — her third assist of the night — and Zara Zavoral to make it 3–1.
With the Colts pressing late and the net empty, Superior Heights sealed the championship at 1:24. Ava Mount found the back of the net for her second goal of the season, assisted by Lucy Curran and Calista Hodkinson, securing a 4–1 victory and officially clinching the city title.
In goal, Kaydence Wardell stood tall for the Steelhawks, delivering a composed performance between the pipes, while Britton Notte battled hard in net for the Colts.
With the win, both the Superior Heights Steelhawks and the Korah Colts now turn their attention to the 2026 NOSSA Girl’s Hockey Championships, set to take place in Sault Ste Marie on March 9th and 10th, where they will represent the city on the Northern Ontario stage.
