On a warm and wet Saturday evening at Rocky DiPietro Field in Sault Ste Marie on June 22nd, the atmosphere crackled with excitement as the 1-1 Sault Steelers secured a thrilling victory under the lights to the 2-0 visiting Sarnia Imperials.

From the electrifying kickoff to the final triumphant play, every moment was filled with heart-pounding action and unwavering team spirit. The quarterback’s precision passes, the running back’s agile dodges, and the defense’s steadfast resolve all contributed to our team’s success.

As the final whistle blew, the scoreboard lit up in the Steelers favour, marking not just a win on the field but a collective triumph for their 2024 Ontario Power 5 Football League home opener. Celebrations ensued, with players hoisted on shoulders and chants of victory echoing into the night in the Sault’s 21 – 7 win over the Imperials.

Jonathan Bujold told Saultsports that “First of all, big thanks and Kudos to Sarnia for making the trip with shorter numbers than they’re used to. That seems to be the nature of this new league with all the distance travelled. Winning at home becomes critical and our guys delivered against an undefeated team. Ryan Yost was clutch when we needed him and all our lineman and running backs played extremely hard. Very happy with that group. Defence as always was great. When we’re at home we’re always a tough team to play and that showed today.”
