In a mid afternoon Ontario Summer Football League contest in Sudbury, Ontario, the third place (2-1) Sault U18 Sabercats fought valiantly but fell short in the final moment of a heartbreaking loss to the seventh place (1-2) Sudbury Spartans on Saturday, June 22nd.
The game unfolded with tense anticipation, each play shaping the fate of our team’s season. Our offence showcased resilience, navigating through tough defences and executing strategic manoeuvres that kept us in contention until the very end. The Spartans, equally determined, seized a fleeting opportunity in the closing moment, delivering a decisive blow that left the Sabercats stunned. The sidelines echoed with shouts of encouragement and frustration as time slipped away. As the Sabercats headed home, the Sault carried the bitter taste of defeat but also a renewed determination to rise stronger from this setback, knowing that every challenge on the road only fuels our resolve for future victories.

Sabercat coach Jamie Antonello told Saultsports that “We were somewhat undisciplined today and lost a very close game. We had an opportunity to win the game and let it slip away on the final play. It’s unfortunate but we will learn from this and look to rebound versus Peterborough.”
The U18 Sabercats will be back in action on Saturday, June 29th to host the visiting Peterborough Wolverines in a 3:00 p.m kickoff at Superior Heights while the U16 Sabercats hit the turf at Superior Heights in a 1:00 p.m start against the Quinte Skyhawks.
Watch or listen to the U16 and U18 Sabercats if you can not make it to the field on Saultsports TV or TruHous Sports Radio.
