Soo Greyhounds General Manager Kyle Raftis announced Thursday, August 18th that Brendan Taylor has been named as an Assistant Coach with the club in advance of the upcoming 2022/23 Ontario Hockey League (OHL) season.
A 33-year-old native of Oakville, Ontario, Taylor joins the Greyhounds’ program after spending the past six seasons with the Mississauga Steelheads in the league’s Eastern Conference.
During his tenure with the Steelheads, Taylor originally joined the team as a Video Coordinator before quickly being promoted to an Assistant Coach after one season, where he worked closely with the team’s defensemen.
“Brendan is going to be an excellent addition to our coaching staff this upcoming season,” Raftis said.
“He brings a distinctive understanding of the development path of a modern-day defenseman, and with his experience as both a player and coach in the OHL, we believe he’ll bring a unique perspective to our bench this season and will support our players and staff to continue pushing their development.”
Prior to his time with Mississauga, Taylor spent two seasons as an Assistant Coach with the Oakville Blades of the Tier II Jr. A Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL).
As a player, he also had an OHL career that spanned three seasons from 2006 to 2008, which included time with the Peterborough Petes, Belleville Bulls, and Saginaw Spirit.
“I’m extremely excited to be joining the Soo Greyhounds,” Taylor said.
“I want to thank Kyle and John Dean for the opportunity to work for such a great organization. I can’t wait for training camp to begin, and I’m looking forward to the start of the upcoming season.”
