On Thursday, August 3rd, the Soo 18U Black Sox headed south of the border to play a doubleheader in Superior Algoma Baseball League action.
In game one of the doubleheader even though Soo Black Sox 18U collected 12 hits to Gaylord Baseball Club’s nine, they still fell 10-6 on Thursday.
Soo Black Sox 18U were the first to get on the board in the first when Keyton Mousseau hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.
A double by S Sirecely gave Gaylord Baseball Club the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the first.
Soo Black Sox 18U captured the lead, 4-2, in the top of the second when Connor Bruzas singled, scoring one run, and Kolton Tremblay tripled, scoring two runs.
Gaylord Baseball Club took the lead in the bottom of the second. T Bozer tripled, scoring three runs, to give Gaylord Baseball Club the edge, 5-4.
Gaylord Baseball Club added one run in the third after Jason Kihn singled.
Kihn earned the win for Gaylord Baseball Club. The starting pitcher allowed 12 hits and six runs over seven innings, striking out four and walking two. Nolan Toni took the loss for Soo Black Sox 18U. The righty went one and one-third innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on two hits, striking out one and walking five.
Soo Black Sox 18U accumulated 12 hits in the game. Tremblay went 3-for-4 at the plate as they led the team with three runs batted in. Bruzas and Carter Young each collected multiple hits for Soo Black Sox 18U.
Kihn, Colin Basinski, and Brett Koscielniak each collected two hits for Gaylord Baseball Club. Bozer went 1-for-3 at the plate as the outfielder led the team with three runs batted in. Garrett Purdy led Gaylord Baseball Club with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying eight walks for the game. Gaylord Baseball Club turned one double play in the game.
Game two action saw the Soo Black Sox 18U triumphant over Gaylord Baseball Club 5-4 on Thursday.
Gaylord Baseball Club were the first to get on the board in the first when R Russo hit an inside the park home run, scoring three runs.
Soo Black Sox 18U jumped into the lead in the top of the fifth when Lucas Carriere drew a walk, scoring one run, Lucas DiBerardino singled, scoring two runs, and Jace Hill-Pine grounded out, scoring one run.
Kolton Tremblay earned the win for Soo Black Sox 18U. The reliever gave up one hit and one run (zero earned) over four innings, striking out seven and walking one. Garrett Purdy took the loss for Gaylord Baseball Club. The starting pitcher went six and two-thirds innings, giving up five runs (two earned) on two hits, striking out four and walking five. Cole Masse opened the game for Soo Black Sox 18U. They surrendered four hits and three runs over three innings, striking out three and walking two.
DiBerardino, the number eight hitter for Soo Black Sox 18U, led the way with two runs batted in. They went 1-for-2 on the day. DiBerardino and Carmine Perna each collected one hit for Soo Black Sox 18U.
Russo drove the middle of the lineup, leading Gaylord Baseball Club with three runs batted in. The third baseman went 2-for-2 on the day. T Bozer stole two bases.
Soo Black Sox 18U welcome Northern Michigan Patriots on Wednesday for their next game.
