Over the August 16th to 18th weekend, the Soo 18U Black Sox hit the road to take part in the 2024 Ontario Baseball Association 18U ‘A’ Championships in Stratford, Ontario with their opening game against the Windsor Hawks.
Kolton Tremblay collected three hits in four at bats, as Black Sox defeated Windsor Hawks 6-5 on Friday. Tremblay singled in the fifth inning, singled in the sixth inning, and singled in the first inning.
The Soo came back to win despite trailing 5-1 in the second.
A walk by Jaxon McArthur put Windsor Hawks on the board in the top of the first.
Lucas Carriere singled, which helped the Soo Black tie the game at one in the bottom of the first.
Windsor Hawks jumped back into the lead in the top of the second inning after the Black Sox committed an error, Phoenix Bailey singled, Jesse Moffat singled, and Jack Evans doubled, each scoring one run.
The Soo captured the lead, 6-5, in the bottom of the sixth after Tremblay singled, and Carriere walked, each scoring one run.
Tye Turco earned the win for the Black Sox. The pitcher gave up four hits and two runs (zero earned) over five innings, striking out two and walking four. Leo Gai took the loss for Windsor Hawks. The pitcher went two innings, surrendering two runs on two hits, striking out three and walking three. Chase Cerasuolo started on the hill for the Soo. The starter allowed two hits and three runs (one earned) over one and one-third innings, striking out one and walking two. Moffat led things off on the mound for Windsor Hawks. The starter gave up three hits and one run over two and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking two. Tremblay collected the save.
The Black Sox accumulated 11 hits in the game. Keyton Mousseau, Carriere, and Carter Young each collected multiple hits for the Soo. The Black Sox had patience at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game. Lucas DiBerardino and Turco led the team with two walks each. Tremblay stole three bases.
Moffat and Evans were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Windsor Hawks. Moffat, Bailey, Evans, and McArthur each drove in one run for Windsor Hawks. Eavan Blundell led Windsor Hawks with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing six walks for the game. Windsor Hawks turned one double play in the game.
