Soo 18U Black Sox Finish 3-2 at Tournament in Gladwin

Coming off back-to-back weekends of wins over the Sudbury Shamrocks and Team North 15U, the Soo 18U Black were back on the road for a tournament in Gladwin, Michigan over the June 14th to 16th weekend.

Both Soo and Millington American Legion 164 18U had their offences going on Friday, but the Black Sox 18U eventually prevailed 14-10. The Soo collected 10 hits, while Millington American Legion 164 18U had 11.

Millington American Legion 164 18U got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after the Soo committed an error, Drake Terwilliger stole home, and Lukas Henderson singled, each scoring one run.

A single by Jacob Fluty extended the Millington American Legion 164 18U lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the third inning.

In the top of the fourth inning, the Black Sox went back into the lead after Nolan Toni hit into a fielder’s choice, Millington American Legion 164 18U committed an error, Lucas DiBerardino singled, Kolton Tremblay singled, Keyton Mousseau singled, Cole Masse singled, Millington American Legion 164 18U committed an error, and Zach Allard walked, each scoring one run.

Lucas Carriere earned the win for the Black Sox. The starting pitcher surrendered nine hits and nine runs (five earned) over five and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking one. Luke Petzold took the loss for Millington American Legion 164 18U. The right-handed pitcher went one and one-third innings, giving up three runs on two hits, striking out none and walking two. Garret Woodward started the game for Millington American Legion 164 18U. The righty allowed six hits and nine runs (two earned) over four innings, striking out three and walking three. Lamming appeared in relief for Soo Black Sox 18U.

The Black Sox amassed 10 hits in the game. Tremblay, Mousseau, DiBerardino, and Masse each collected two hits for the Soo. Mousseau and DiBerardino each drove in two runs for the Black Sox. The Soo turned one double play in the game.

Millington American Legion 164 18U amassed 11 hits in the game. Henderson, Logan Myers, and Fluty each collected two hits for Millington American Legion 164 18U. Myers and Myers were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for Millington American Legion 164 18U. Fluty stole two bases.

In game two of the weekend, the Soo claimed a victory over Mt Pleasant Post 110 A. The Black Sox were victorious against Mt Pleasant Post 110 A 7-4.

The Soo got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Keyton Mousseau doubled, scoring one run, Carter Young singled, scoring one run, and Lucas Carriere doubled, scoring two runs.

The Black Sox committed an error, which helped Mt Pleasant Post 110 A tie the game at four in the top of the fifth. A steal of home by Cole Masse gave the Soo the lead, 5-4, in the bottom of the fifth.

Nolan Toni earned the win for the Soo. They gave up three hits and four runs (one earned) over five and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking seven. Holiday took the loss for Mt Pleasant Post 110 A. They went four and one-third innings, surrendering three runs (two earned) on four hits, striking out eight and walking none. York started the game for Mt Pleasant Post 110 A. They allowed five hits and four runs (zero earned) over one and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking two. Masse collected the save.

Methnier, Payne, and Cresuer each collected one hit for Mt Pleasant Post 110 A. Methnier and Payne each drove in one run for Mt Pleasant Post 110 A. Mt Pleasant Post 110 A had patience at the plate, collecting eight walks for the game. Holiday, York, and Wheeler led the team with two walks each.

In game three of the weekend in Gladwin, the Black Sox Defeats Lightning Post 171 18U On Back Of Clutch Display From Cole Masse. Cole Masse drove in five runs on one hit to lead the Soo past Lightning Post 171 18U 13-3 on Saturday. In the first inning, Masse hit a grand slam to right field.

A single by Keyton Mousseau, a double by Carter Young, and a single by Lucas Carriere helped the Soo extend their early lead in the second. The Black Sox added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Kolton Tremblay doubled, Lightning Post 171 18U committed an error, and Lightning Post 171 18U committed an error, each scoring one run.

Michael Hapanovich earned the win for the Black Sox. The southpaw gave up five hits and two runs over three innings, striking out three and walking two. Walkers set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading Lightning Post 171 18U with two hits in three at bats. Walkers and Guzman each stole multiple bases for Lightning Post 171 18U.

On Saturday, the Black Sox stymied by Mt Pleasant Post 110 AA 18U. The Soo couldn’t keep up with Mt Pleasant Post 110 AA 18U and fell 14-6 on Saturday.

Mt Pleasant Post 110 AA 18U got on the board in the top of the first inning after Jack Chiodini grounded out, and Joey Miller walked, each scoring one run. Lucas Carriere singled after a 8-pitch at-bat, which helped the Black Sox tie the game at two in the bottom of the first. Mt Pleasant Post 110 AA 18U took the lead in the top of the second. Easton Denslow singled, scoring two runs, to give Mt Pleasant Post 110 AA 18U the lead, 4-2.

The Soo aptured the lead, 5-4, in the bottom of the second when Cole Masse was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, and Carter Young doubled, scoring two runs. Mt Pleasant Post 110 AA 18U jumped into the lead in the top of the third when Denslow doubled, scoring two runs, and Ryan Wiggins singled, scoring one run. Mt Pleasant Post 110 AA 18U scored six runs on three hits in the top of the fourth inning. Cade Sutherland singled, scoring one run, Miller homered to right field, scoring two runs, Noah Zeien doubled, scoring one run, and Luke Hacker grounded out, scoring two runs.

Zeien earned the win for Mt Pleasant Post 110 AA 18U. The reliever gave up one hit and one run over three innings, striking out two and walking two. Chase Cerasuolo took the loss for the Soo. The righty went three innings, giving up 10 runs (nine earned) on nine hits, striking out none and walking four. Kolton Tremblay stepped on the bump first for the Black Sox. They allowed five hits and four runs (three earned) over two innings, striking out one and walking three. Denslow stepped on the bump first for Mt Pleasant Post 110 AA 18U. The starting pitcher allowed three hits and five runs (three earned) over two innings, striking out one and walking three. Lucas DiBerardino, Carriere, Masse, and Young each collected one hit for the Soo. Carriere, Masse, and Young each drove in two runs for the Black Sox.

Mt Pleasant Post 110 AA 18U tallied 14 hits in the game. Denslow led Mt Pleasant Post 110 AA 18U with four runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The pitcher went 2-for-2 on the day. Number seven hitter, Zeien, showed the depth of Mt Pleasant Post 110 AA 18U’s lineup, by leading them with three hits in three at bats. In their final game of the weekend on the road, the Soo fell with Tough Game Against Mt Pleasant Post 110 AA 18U. The Black Sox had trouble keeping up with Mt Pleasant Post 110 AA 18U in a 10-2 loss on Sunday. A ground out by Cole Masse put Soo on the board in the top of the first.

Mt Pleasant Post 110 AA 18U flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring five runs on four hits to take a 5-1 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Connor Stempky that drove in two. Mt Pleasant Post 110 AA 18U scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. An error scored one run, Joey Miller doubled, scoring two runs, and an error scored two runs.

Cade Sutherland earned the win for Mt Pleasant Post 110 AA 18U. The starting pitcher allowed four hits and two runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out nine and walking none. Masse took the loss for the Black Sox. The right-handed pitcher went four innings, giving up 10 runs (six earned) on 10 hits, striking out three and walking three. Kolton Tremblay, Lucas DiBerardino, Carter Young, and Connor Bruzas each collected one hit for the Soo. Masse led the Black Sox with one run batted in.

Mt Pleasant Post 110 AA 18U accumulated 10 hits in the game. Jack Chiodini, Ryan Wiggins, Miller, and Stempky each collected two hits for Mt Pleasant Post 110 AA 18U. Miller, Caleb Calhoun, and Stempky each drove in two runs for Mt Pleasant Post 110 AA 18U.

The next game for the Black Sox will be against the EUP Woodcocks on Tuesday, June 18th with the opening pitch at 5:00 p.m at IDA Park in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario.
