Soo 18U Black Sox Fall 0-2 in Doubleheader to Gaylord at Home in Midweek Clash

On Wednesday, July 10th at IDA Park in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, the Soo 18U Black took to the diamond for a doubleheader against the Gaylord Baseball Club.

Both teams were strong on the mound on Wednesday, but Gaylord Baseball Club was just a little bit stronger at the plate in their 3-1 victory over the Soo. Cole Masse started the game for the Black Sox and recorded 21 outs.

A walk by Thomas Keough put the Soo on the board in the bottom of the second.

Gaylord Baseball Club took the lead in the top of the fifth inning after R Rosso singled, L Greenier tripled, and J Kihn singled, each scoring one run. Kihn earned the win for Gaylord Baseball Club. The starting pitcher gave up four hits and one run (zero earned) over seven innings, striking out four and walking two. Masse took the loss for the Soo. They went seven innings, giving up three runs (zero earned) on eight hits, striking out eight and walking one.

Keyton Mousseau, Masse, Caleb Walker, and Connor Bruzas each collected one hit for the Black Sox. Lucas Carriere stole two bases.

Greenier, Rosso, and Kihn each drove in one run for Gaylord Baseball Club. Rosso went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Gaylord Baseball Club in hits. Lamerato collected two hits for Gaylord Baseball Club in four at bats. Lamerato stole two bases.

In game two of the doubleheader in Sault Ste Marie, the Black Sox Fall Victim To Gaylord Baseball Club Rally. Despite leading by as many as five runs, Soo Black Sox fell to Gaylord Baseball Club 11-9 on Wednesday at IDA Park.

The Soo lost despite out-hitting Gaylord Baseball Club 11 to seven. Kolton Tremblay, Caleb Walker, and Connor Bruzas each collected two hits for the Black Sox.

The Soo got on the board in the bottom of the third inning after Walker singled, and Tremblay homered to left field, each scoring two runs. Gaylord Baseball Club flipped the game on its head in the top of the fifth, scoring six runs on three hits to take a 6-5 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Ford that drove in two.

The Black Sox jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning after Tremblay doubled, Zach Allard hit a sacrifice fly, and Michael Hapanovich grounded out, each scoring one run. Gaylord Baseball Club made the score 10-8 in the top of the sixth after Ford was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Greenier drew a walk, scoring one run, and Kihn doubled, scoring two runs.

R Rosso earned the win for Gaylord Baseball Club. The reliever allowed five hits and five runs (three earned) over four innings, striking out none and walking one. Tremblay took the loss for the Black Sox. They went four and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs on three hits, striking out five and walking six. Purdy started on the mound for Gaylord Baseball Club. The starting pitcher surrendered six hits and four runs over three innings, striking out three and walking none.

The Soo amassed 11 hits in the game. Tremblay provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Black Sox with three runs batted in. They went 2-for-3 on the day.

Lamerato, Kihn, and Singer each collected two hits for Gaylord Baseball Club. Kihn led Gaylord Baseball Club with four runs batted in. The shortstop went 2-for-4 on the day. Gaylord Baseball Club had a strong eye at the plate, tallying nine walks for the game. Greenier, Hornbaker, and Patton led the team with two walks each. Gaylord Baseball Club turned one double play in the game.
