The season is officially underway for SMBA House League, with player evaluations running May 4-8 and setting the stage for what is shaping up to be one of the organization’s strongest years yet. Drafts for 9U to 16U will take place as soon as all teams have head coaches.
Registration is at record levels across all divisions, a clear sign of the growing enthusiasm for baseball in the community. That momentum is being matched by strong local support, with businesses stepping up through team sponsorships, in-kind services, donations, and field advertising. Banners displayed across the diamonds this season will serve as a visible reminder of the partnerships helping make the program possible.
SMBA is also expanding its competitive pathways this year. The Black Sox program will feature Dedicated Select teams at the 11U, 13U, and 15U levels, alongside Rep A teams at 9U, 11U, 12U, 15U, and 18U. This structure continues to provide players with opportunities to develop their skills in both local and province-wide competitive environments.
Before the season can officially begin, the organization is still seeking head coaches across all age divisions. While many parents have already stepped forward to support as assistants, there remains a strong need for experienced leaders to guide each team. Head coaches without direct parent affiliations bring an added level of neutrality and balance, helping create a positive and development-focused environment for all players.
Volunteering as a coach is more than filling a role, it’s an opportunity to shape the experience young athletes will carry with them long after the season ends. It builds community, strengthens connections, and ensures that every player has the chance to learn, compete, and enjoy the game.
With strong registration numbers, growing competitive programs, and continued community backing, SMBA is positioned for an exciting and impactful season ahead for divisions from tball through to the Open 18+ League.
