Central Scouting revealed its final ranking of the top North American skaters and goalies, and the top International skaters and goalies, on Thursday, May 27th with Sault Ste Marie, Ontario defenseman Jack Matier of the OHL Ottawa 67’s ranked 79th.
The past few weeks have been a whirlwind for the 18 year old Sault Ste Marie, Ontario native with winning a 2021 U18 IIHF World Championship representing Canada in Texas as well as being ranked in the final NHL Central Scouting’s Final Ranking.
Matier’s journey began when the Ottawa 67’s selected Matier 21st overall in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection Draft. During the 2019 – 2020 OHL shortened season as a 17 year old rookie blueliner in the nation’s capital, Matier had seven assists in 56 regular season games with the 67’s. Matier finished his first season in the OHL with a plus 11 average.
The 2021 draft will be held virtually with the first round July 23rd and rounds 2-7 on July 24th.
Rounding out the Sault Ste Marie connection is three OHL Soo Greyhounds with defensemen Jacob Holmes (6’1″/205) ranked 70th along with fellow blueliner Robert Calisti (5’9″/182 lbs) being ranked at 156th. Greyhound left winger Marc Boudreau (6’2″/180) rounded out the Greyhounds in the rankings at 206.
