Former NOJHL Soo Eagle Jacob Bumbaco to Join ACHA DII Sault College Cougars

20 year old Sault Ste Marie, Ontario native Jacob Bumbaco has committed to the ACHA DII Sault College Cougars for the fall of 2021. The Sault Ste Marie, Ontario student athlete will be enrolled in Sault College Electrical Engineering program.

The Sault Ste Marie, Ontario forward will join the 2019 ACHA DIII Champions when they hopefully hit the ice for the 2021 – 2022 collegiate hockey season after playing the 2019 – 2020 season in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan for the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League Soo Eagles. The 5’9” and 165 lbs winger scored twice and assisted on seven Eagles goals in 35 regular season appearances in 2019 – 2020 while tallying eight minutes in penalties. In two post season matchups for the Soo, Bumbaco added one contributor to his junior ‘A’ total. The Sault Ste Marie hockey product played two seasons in the Sault Ste Marie High School Hockey League for the St Mary’s College Knights from 2017 – 2019.

When Bumbaco wiped on the dust from his skates since not playing competitive hockey since March 2020 with the Eagles, Jacob told Saultsports.com that “I just simply could not pass up the opportunity to come back and play for such a high caliber team at the college level. I feel that I can bring more versatility to their lineup and help create more offence using my speed and play making ability.”

“Jake is a very quick player that will help our penalty kill. Jake is bringing junior experience which will help him adapt to the speed in the ACHA. We’re excited to welcome Jake to the Cougar program,” said Cougar coach Mike Hall.
