On Thursday, March 17th in an afternoon matinee it was a battle of the Canadian Cougars with the (2-0) Brandon, Manitoba’s Assiniboine Cougars taking on the (2-0) Sault College Cougars at the 2022 Central Collegiate Women’s Hockey Association (CCWHA) ACHA DII Women’s National Championships in St Louis, Missouri. The winner of this matchup would have the chance to advance to a 2022 Central Collegiate Women’s Hockey Association (CCWHA) ACHA DII.
At 11:05 of the opening period, Simone Turner-Commer finds the back of Sault College Gabriella Corbiere’s (Aundeck Omni Kaning, ON) net with an unassisted to give Assiniboine a 1 – 0 lead. 15 seconds later, Sault College’s Erika Breitz (Desbarats, ON) scores her second of the championships and evens the game 1 – 1 with an unassisted goal at the 11:20 mark of the first. Simone Turner-Commer sinks her fifth of the championships and second unassisted of the contest at 18:54 to send Assiniboine into the first intermission up 2 – 1. With no scoring in the second and 30 seconds remaining in the afternoon matinee, Simone Turner-Commer registers a hat trick with an empty net goal with Corbiere on the Sault College bench for an extra attacker to give Assiniboine a 3 – 1 win over the Sault College Cougars.
The Assiniboine Cougars on Brandon, Manitoba will now face the Dakota College-Bottineau Jacks from Bottineau, North Dakota in the semi-finals in St Louis, Missouri.
