Fresh off a convincing 31-6 road victory over the North Bay Bulldogs on June 6, the Sault U16 Sabercats returned home to Superior Heights Field on Saturday, June 13, and delivered another dominant performance, shutting out the visiting Quinte Skyhawks 35-0 in rainy conditions.

With heavy rain falling throughout the contest, the Sabercats wasted little time setting the tone. On the opening kickoff, Martino Coccimiglio booted the ball through the Quinte end zone for a rouge, giving the Sault an early 1-0 advantage.

The Sabercats’ offense struck next at the 5:11 mark of the opening quarter when Adam Provenzano powered his way into the end zone on a three-yard rushing touchdown. The major extended the Sault lead to 7-0 and capped off a strong opening drive.

Provenzano found the end zone again in the second quarter. At 6:38, he broke through the Skyhawks’ defensive front and raced 28 yards for his second touchdown of the afternoon. Mason Mazzuca added the convert to increase the Sabercats’ lead to 14-0.

The hosts continued to control both sides of the football before halftime. With just 2:02 remaining in the second quarter, Ashton Neufeld punched in a three-yard touchdown run. Mazzuca’s successful conversion gave the Sabercats a commanding 21-0 lead heading into the break.

Despite the wet conditions, the Sabercats maintained their momentum throughout the second half. The defense kept the Skyhawks off the scoreboard while the offense continued to produce scoring drives.

Davian Clarke added to the lead early in the fourth quarter when he broke free for a 21-yard touchdown run at the 5:04 mark. Mazzuca connected on the extra point to make it 28-0.

The final score came with 4:45 remaining in regulation when Robert Zagorc crossed the goal line on a three-yard rushing touchdown. Mazzuca’s conversion completed the scoring and sealed the Sabercats’ impressive 35-0 victory.

The win marks the Sabercats’ second consecutive triumph and improves their momentum heading into another key matchup next weekend.
