At the John Rhodes Centre on Wednesday, November 24th, the Superior Heights Steelhawks took to the ice to face the Korah Colts in Sault Ste Marie High School Hockey League action. The Steelhawks were coming off a 4 – 3 win over the Colts in an afternoon matinee on Monday, November 22nd at the John Rhodes Centre.
At 5:45 of the first period, Korah Ronan Provenzano finds the back of Steelhawk goaltender Tyler Greco’s net to give the Colts a 1 – 0 lead. Noah Case and Nathan Keranen drew the assists on Provenzano’s powerplay goal. On a Steelhawk powerplay, Ray Rumiel fires the tying goal behind Korah netminder Matthew Gagne with an unassisted goal 49 seconds into the second period. Connor Ouimette scores the go-ahead goal for Superior Heights at 8:32 of the period with Evan Morrison notching the lone contributor on Ouimette’s goal. Cole Arruda sets up Keranen for a Korah tying goal at 2:08 to bring the midweek clash tied 2 – 2. With 33 seconds remaining in the period, Dylan Garson sends Korah into the second intermission up 3 – 2 with a Colts unassisted goal at the 14:27 mark of the second period.
Scoring his second powerplay marker was Colt Ronan Provenzano at 13:19 of the third with Kaylob Thibodeau registering the assist on Provenzano’s goal. 46 seconds before the midway mark of the period, Provenzano earns a hat trick with his third of the contest with a Korah unassisted goal. At 8:50 of the final period, Brett Morgan secures the Colts win with Korah’s sixth of the game to give Colts a 6 – 2 win over the Steelhawks. Carter Benka and Evan Hemsworth added the helpers on Morgan’s goal.
Superior Heights coach Chris Hales told Saultsports that “it was a tough loss. We started the game off slow but played a solid second period. Unfortunately, we could not build on that in the third, and the game got away from us. Fortunately, there are a lot of lessons we can learn from it. Most importantly that when we stick to the script and compete hard we are right there. Moving forward we need to play that way for all three periods.”
The Colts now face the St Mary’s Knights on Sunday, November 28th in a 8:00 p.m puck drop and live on Saultsports Radio while the Steelhawks return to action on Wednesday, December 1st at the John Rhodes Centre in a 3:30 p.m start.
