On Sunday, January 12th in the first game of a doubleheader of Sault Ste Marie High School Hockey League action, the Korah Colts faced the CASS Huskies at the John Rhodes Centre.
In the first game of a high-stakes doubleheader in the Sault Ste. Marie High School Hockey League, the Korah Colts emerged victorious with a dramatic 4-3 overtime win against the CASS Huskies at the John Rhodes Centre.
The Colts took the lead in the first period when Koen Manchulenko capitalized on a defensive lapse, scoring an unassisted goal—his 11th of the season—to put Korah up 1-0.
The Huskies leveled the score early in the second period, with Hayden Wells finding the back of the net unassisted for his ninth goal of the season, beating Korah goaltender Payton Melchiorre. However, the Colts regained momentum as Deago Campagna scored to make it 2-1, followed by Tyler Lang’s 11th goal of the season, giving Korah a 3-1 lead heading into the final period.
The Huskies refused to back down. Brody Kleist opened the third period with his 21st goal of the season, narrowing the deficit to 3-2. As the clock ticked down, Tyler Quenneville stepped up in the clutch, scoring his 13th goal of the season to tie the game 3-3 and send the contest into overtime.
In the extra frame, it was Preston Miller who sealed the win for Korah. Miller’s sixth goal of the season found its way past Huskies netminder Cash Roswell, delivering a thrilling 4-3 victory for the Colts and sending their fans into celebration.
