On May 6th, Sault Ste Marie former Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League forward Caleb Wood committed to the ACHA DII Sault College Cougars men’s hockey program.
The 21 year old forward comes to the Cougars hockey program after playing the last three seasons in the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League with the Soo Eagles (2018-2020) and Soo Thunderbirds in 2020–2021). In 105 regular season games in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan with the Eagles, the 5’11” and 160 lbs forward scored 39 goals and had 39 assists while tallying 55 minutes in penalties. Wood also added three assists in six post season matchups with the Eagles in spring of 2019. While with the Thunderbirds in a modified junior ‘A’ season in 2020-2021, Caleb sank ten goals and contributed on 13 goals in 21 games in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. The Sault Ste Marie native accumulated ten penalty minutes with the Thunderbirds in 2020-2021.
“I chose Sault College because they are a very successful and very well coached team. All I have ever heard is positive things about their hockey program and school. I think it is a great fit for me. It didn’t even take a second thought to know that’s the team I want to play for. I think I can bring smart solid hockey and I can be a good teammate and bring a positive attitude to their roster.
