Noble, Team Defense power Knights over Colts in Sr. Girls basketball action.

SR. GIRLS

KORAH  VS. ST. MARY’S

What everyone was anticipating to be a tight game was anything but, as the Knights defense smothered the Colts offense in the second half en-route to a 49-21 victory over the Colts.

The Knights led 21-19 late in the third quarter when the defense just took over.  One defensive stop led to another, and another,  as St. Mary’s went on a 28-2 run to end the game.

The Knights Ashlyn Noble was once again her dominating self leading all players with 20 points.  Caitlin Senecal played her best game of the year and poured in 11 points, while teammate Payton Magli chipped in with 7.

Coach Zagordo was very pleased with how his team played from start to finish.

“It was a great team effort all game.  I thought our defense was phenomenal and it led to most of our offensive opportunities.  I’m really happy with how we played tonight against a tough Korah team”

For the Colts, Lucy Lafrance led her team with 7 points. Delaney Elliott and Mikayla Tremblay had 3 points each.

Coach Williams felt his team gave up too many second and third chance opportunities to the Knights.

“The Knights played a great game but we came out flat and gave up way too many offensive rebounds which lead to points for them.  This was a great learning experience for the girls, and I have to do a better job preparing them.  After a loss like that, you  find out what type of a team you have, but I love how we stayed positive and kept battling.

SUPERIOR HEIGHTS  VS. WHITE PINES

Katelin Allard scored 10 points, teammates Sadie Grawbarger and Mya Ferguson finished with 9 points each, as the Steelhawks defeated the Wolverines 48-23.  The Steelhawks responded nicely after a heartbreaking loss the week before.  Superior Heights improves to 1-2 on the season after the win.

Kadynce Lovelace led all Wolverines with 8 points. Chloe Cormier had 7 points and Ema-Leigh Gibb Sarlo finished with 6.

JR. GIRLS

KORAH VS. ST. MARY’S

In a game featuring two 2-0 teams, Sophia Fata dominated on both sides of the floor leading the Knights to a 39-33 victory over the Colts.  Fata finished with 10 points and played great defense to help build a lead that her team wouldn’t relinquish.  Teammates Kloe Kurylo ( 10pts ), Tru Toms ( 8pts ) and Abby Jaremko ( 7pts ) rounded out the scoring for the Knights.

Knights coach Nate Kwofee was pleased with how his team played on offensively and defensively.

“I thought our active hands on defense led to steals which then led to points in transition.  I thought Sophia played a great game.  She was aggressive on both ends and did a great job on the boards as well.  I thought it was an amazing performance by our girls tonight”

For the Colts, Judy Nouh scored 9 points to lead her team.  Emily Bateman had her best game of the year and scored 8 points while securing 10 rebounds. Katie Macfarlane ( 6 pts ) and Lila Jarrett ( 5 pts ) rounded out the scoring for the Colts.

Colts coach David Hoover knew going into the game that playing good transition defense was going to be key.

“We knew St. Mary’s likes to push the ball up the floor so our transition defense was going to be key. Unfortunately our inexperience showed as the players concentrated on their player too many times instead of stopping the ball, which led to many easy layups for the Knights.  On offense, We didn’t move the ball enough against their 2-3 zone which made it tough to score.  The Knights played great defense tonight.  Considering at one point we were down by 16 points, I was very pleased with how the girls fought back to just lose by 6.”

SUPERIOR HEIGHTS VS. WHITE PINES
