Schweitzer came away with a three-point performance in the Lakers’ 5-0 victory over Northern Michigan on Friday. He scored his first goal of the season with a strike on the power play before picking up a pair of assists as well. Then on Saturday, he managed to disrupt the puck with his stick to allow for his teammates to go down the ice and score their opening goal of the night to knot up the score at 1-1 and push his weekend point total to 4. His defensive effort also proved crucial in helping the Lakers kill off all six penalties. Schweitzer finished the weekend with a +3 rating and a block as well.
Applebee held the Wildcats to just a single goal on the weekend to help lead the Lakers to a 2-0 start in conference play. He stopped all 34 shots that he faced on Friday to secure his second shutout of the season before staving off 28 of 29 NMU attempts on Saturday. 14 of his saves from the weekend came while LSSU was playing with a man down due to penalties, helping maintain the Lakers’ perfect penalty kill percentage with them now holding opponents scoreless on a nation-leading 32-32 power play opportunities.
