Korah Colts Stay Perfect with Junior High School Win Over Superior Heights

On Thursday, September 18th, the (1-1) Superior Heights Steelhawks took to the field to take on the (2-0) Korah Colts in Sault Ste Marie High School Junior Football action at Superior Heights Field.

On Thursday, September 18th, the Superior Heights Steelhawks (1-1) hosted the Korah Colts (2-0) in Sault Ste. Marie High School Junior Football action at Superior Heights Field. What began as a back-and-forth battle through the first half turned into a dominant second-half performance by the Colts, who pulled away for a 43-15 victory to stay perfect on the season.

The Steelhawks opened the scoring midway through the first quarter when Noah Lesyshen punched in a two-yard carry at 2:52. Eli Clowater’s convert made it 7-0. Korah answered late in the frame as Enzo Gonzalez broke loose for a 30-yard touchdown run with just 10.8 seconds remaining, and with Nolan Coudert’s kick, the game was tied 7-7.

In the second quarter, the Colts took a 9-7 lead after Superior Heights conceded a safety at 8:35. But Lesyshen continued his strong day, scoring his second touchdown of the half on a three-yard run with just over two minutes to play. Quarterback Nik Joseph added a two-point conversion, sending the Steelhawks into halftime with a 15-9 lead.

The second half, however, belonged entirely to Korah. At 10:52 of the third quarter, Ethan Brewer tied the game with a three-yard touchdown run, and Coudert’s extra put the Colts up 16-15. Moments later, Jairren Kaldma extended the lead with a touchdown at 2:21, followed again by Coudert’s kick, making it 23-15. Superior Heights then conceded another safety in the final seconds of the quarter, and Korah entered the fourth up 25-15.

From there, the Colts’ offense exploded. At 11:09, Kaelan Nelles capped off a 30-yard reception from Brewer with a one-yard touchdown run to make it 31-15. Just minutes later, Davien Clarke broke through for a 40-yard rushing major at 4:37 to stretch the lead to 37-15. Nelles struck again in the final moments, scoring his second touchdown of the night after a 12-yard run following a 27-yard pass from Brewer, sealing a decisive 43-15 win for Korah.

With the victory, the Colts improve to 3-0 and continue their early-season dominance, while the Steelhawks fall to 1-2.

The Colts next opponents will be the White Pines Wolverines when they take to the field for a 4:45 p.m kickoff on Thursday, September 25th while the Steelhawks meet the St Mary’s Knights on Friday, September 26th at Superior Heights with a start time of 4:45 p.m.
