On Friday, September 26th, under the lights at Superior Heights Field, the third-place Superior Heights Steelhawks (1-2) hosted the second-place St. Mary’s Knights (2-1) in Sault Ste. Marie High School Junior Football week four action.
After a scoreless opening quarter, St. Mary’s broke through in the second when Vinn Volpe-Sagle powered into the end zone to put the Knights ahead 7-0, with William Watts converting the extra point. Both defenses held strong deep into the second half, with the Knights preserving their narrow lead until the closing minutes.
With just 3:10 left in the contest, Adam Provenzano surged past the Steelhawks’ defensive line on a six-yard carry, sealing a 13-0 victory for St. Mary’s. The Knights’ balanced offensive attack and stout defense proved too much for the Steelhawks, who were shut out for the first time this season.
The win moves St. Mary’s to 3-1, keeping pace with the league-leading Korah Colts, while Superior Heights falls to 2-2.
Next up, the Knights face their biggest test of the season when they meet the undefeated Korah Colts (4-0) on Thursday, October 2nd. The Steelhawks will look to rebound when they battle the White Pines Wolverines (0-4) on Friday, October 3rd. Both games kick off at 4:45 p.m. at Superior Heights Field and will be broadcast live on SaultSports TV.
