
At the Memorial Gardens in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, the Superior Heights Steelhawks took to the ice to face the St Mary’s Knights in Sault Ste Marie High School Hockey League action on Sunday, January 22nd.
4:01 into the opening period, St Mary’s Carmine Perna found the back of Steelhawk netminder Tristan Tranberg to give the Knights a 1 – 0 lead with Dawson Wilson and Gabe Zimbaro adding the helpers on Perna’s goal. Kyle Scarfone sinks St Mary’s second of the contest at 2:24 of the first with Nik Vecchio and Carter Lidstone drawing the assists on Scarfone’s goal. 26 seconds past the halfway mark of the second, Darion Pucci brings the Knights lead to 3 – 0 at the 9:34 mark of the period with Darion Perrault and Lucas Green contributing on St Mary’s third goal. At 8:16, Ray Rumiel sinks Superior Heights first of the contest behind Knight goaltender Liam Dubois. Tristan Gioia and Michael Wiest drew the assists on Rumiel’s goal. Connor Ouimette pulls the Steelhawks with one at 5:57 of the middle stanza with Liam Willet registering the lone helper on Ouimette’s goal.
With St Mary’s on a powerplay 71 seconds into the third, Perna scores his second behind Tranberg to give the Knights a 4 – 2 lead with Daniel Guzzo and Wilson setting up Perna’s powerplay marker. 19 seconds before the midway mark of the period, Lucas Green finds the back of Superior Heights net to increase the lead to 5 – 2 with Perrault and Caden MacInnes adding the assists on Green’s goal. Guzzo fires his second of the game at 9:04. Nathan Palmer had the contributor of Guzzo’s second point of the game. With time ticking down and the Knights on a powerplay up 6 – 2, Guzzo secures a St Mary’s 7 – 2 win with Wilson and Scarfone notching the assists.
The Steelhawks and Knights will return to high school hockey action with a 3:30 p.m matchup on February 1st at the John Rhodes Centre.
